Vassal Module v8.0.5 is out

New features:

  • The popup window that shows up while the module is loading will no longer offer to download missing content (new pilot cards, upgrade cards, ship bases, etc.) in order to avoid duplicate code in several places. The module will still silently check for new content and if it finds some, the ‘Content Checker’ button in the chat window will flash red obnoxiously until you deal with it by clicking on it and download the new stuff.
  • Pilot, upgrade and condition cards have a new shortcut: CTRL-Q (for Query Text) which will display the card text in the chat, visible to all. The source of the card text will come from the external community data source that the Vassal module uses (phone apps and web squad builders also use the same central data source). This legwork will also serve for alternative game modes that use tweaked cards; it will use their modified card text while using that shortcut.
  • A test run of an alternative game move will be linked to the module inside “Content Checker” and the autosquad spawn dialog window; you’ll be able to spawn a supercharged version of a HWK-290 ship, with improved dial and stats. The Autospawn process will make it clear this ship comes from an alternative game mode in the chatlog during the spawning.
  • T-65 X-Wings now spawn with a sfoils toggle and alternate ship base graphic for their closed state – the toggle is the same as the U-Wing’s pivot wing mechanism, ALT-U. The attack value is changed accordingly and a message indicating the sfoils change (opening or closing) is broadcasted to the chat window, if the ship is inside the map window. This problem was hackjob tackled, which will serve us now but may demand a retooling if this kind of toggle is needed more generally in the 2nd edition.

Bugs Squashed:

  • Dials would be hidden underneath pilot cards if placed on the same spot as them; they are now above, as they were before
  • The Lancer-class Pursuit Craft can now once again use its autorange feature while ships are inside its mobile turret arc while it’s facing elsewhere than the front direction (with alt-shift-F).
  • Renegade Refit will now properly discount 1 point max off of an elite talent upgrade

Long March towards 2nd edition:

  • New damage deck can be spawned and used
  • Added reverse 2 as a legal move; it can be performed with SHIFT-7. It works with autobump (ship to ship or movement passing through an obstacle)
  • Started some work on the tallon roll speed 1 (CTRL-H for left, ALT-H for right)
  • Critical card lookup has been updated with the new damage deck http://xwvassal.info/crits

  • Autospawn recovers the ability to tweak the ship stats (Veteran Instinct, Adaptability, Shield Upgrade, Hull upgrade, Stealth Device, Punishing One, etc.)
  • Autospawn recovers the ability to spawn proper dual cards (they can now be flipped to their other side instead of showing a generic background)
  • Autospawn recovers the ability to spawn Ordnance and Illicit Tokens if the cards Extra Munitions, Jabba the Hutt or Ordnance Silos are used in your squad
  • Autospawn recovers the ability to spawn U-Wings that have the flip wings shortcut (ALT-U) that alters their ship graphic, modify their agility and broadcast that a change is being made to the chat, if the ship is in the map window.
