Need To Know Basis

This is not necessarily a gripe but a point of confusion. Does anyone else find it odd that we've had pretty well the whole contents of the box for the E-web and the 1.4 FD revealed (save for the interactions of some new rules such as emplacement trooper) while the Rebel Commandos and Scout Troopers (or Han and Boba) have not been to the same extent? We're getting them first right? wouldn't it make sense to spoil the earlier releasing unit?

Unless I've missed it somewhere. The Scout and Commando news articles are less informative of the unit cards (no close ups) and the upgrades (no linked text to pictures).

Now let me be the first to say I'll eat up any info I can. I'm wasting time crafting lists with units that wont be out for months, theorizing and strategizing. So I find it odd that when I go onto Fab's or Tabletop Admiral that the soon to be newest unit on the shelf is still missing info when the one that follows is listed in full.

Method to FFG's madness?

I noticed that as well. I was surprised to see that the cards covered up in the spread had full images further down in the article. This is the first product I know of that showed the full contents in the first article. Perhaps there is something completely hidden from the article (I highly doubt it)?

That's half the fun :)! Looking forward to the rest of the Commando info so I can begin working out some lists. Interestingly, they did spoil some Commando stuff in these articles (just HQ Uplink, I think).

I wonder if this is just a change in philosophy and Han and the commandos got caught in the transition. It will be interesting to see going forward if the complete sets are revealed earlier.

On the other hand, I wonder if there are further reveals related to these expansions related to rules updates rather than content. For example, I'm really interested in the placement of the 1.4 FD. I'm currently assuming it is placed in your starting area, but I hope that it can be placed in other ways.

It is a bit odd. Though, the E-Web and 1.4 FD actually have earlier product numbers than either special forces unit, Han or Boba.

I noticed that too. I was mildly curious if they're going to be released earlier than the rest and something made that timeline iffy.

There's just not as much to spoil in those two units with identical cards. Where as the Scout and Commando units have more content and unique content between the two.

Fair point, but even still, there are no links to card pictures at all in the Commando and Scout Trooper articles and their unit cards aren't prominently displayed like they are in the 1.4 FD and E-web articles.

The special forces units have two unit cards, which the strike force card being potentially the more interesting of the two. We've also already seen trooper units before, so a close up on the Emplacements might have been deemed more interesting.

It could also be as simple as the articles were written by different authors, one of which wanted a closeup. We know the articles are (generally) written quite awhile before we see them (evidenced by the Rebel's trooper article having the wrong release date), so the Emplacements could have been further along in development when the articles were written than the special forces.

My guess is this: The Turrets will be available for GenCon, and they like to fully spoil stuff that they sell there. The release of the commandos still gives them time for another follow up article pre-GenCon for them to be on sale there too.

No, I think it makes some sense. Han and Boba, even the imperial scouts are iconic enough that people are going to preorder based on aesthetics alone.

The turrets being a substantially newer style of unit (ie static defenses) need a bit more explanation to ensure buyin by players.

I think we’re likely to get longer and more thorough explanations on why X is awesome whenever X is less iconic to the fan base. Sure, one explanation could be that they’re still trying to nail down the design/balance of Boba Fett. But I find it far more likely that he barely needs explanation, people will go ahead and buy because the concept it awesome on its face.
