Are you enjoying 1.0 more or less today?

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

There's a pall hanging over the games I've played mostly due to knowing there's a new thing coming that we're hoping will fix all our quibbles of 1st edition.

Having said that, now is the time to go balls out trying wacky combos and forgotten ships. It is surprising how so many upgrade cards and "non-competitive" pilots have usefull (but limited) abilities. Charges are a nice change that I'm looking forward to.

I still am enjoying the game, but it feels like dancing with your cousin instead of the girl you're actually pining for.

More. It is flawed, but I enjoy it for what it is.

I am still not "sold" on 2.0 yet, so 1.0 will be with me for awhile. 2 takes away a lot of what I like about 1. Yes, it fixes many of the flaws, but I see 2 as losing a major aspect of the game, creative list building in the players hands.

I am going to burn the premade "threat" cards first thing when it arrives. (They are just insulting to me.)

If I didn't have to practice for GenCon games, I'd probably just not play until 2.0. Instead, it will be Trench Run and Mario Kart until then.

I'm enjoying it and trying a bunch of new stuff while I still can. Problem is, the majority of my local group have concentrated on Imperial Assault and Legion for the most part.

Trying out things in preparation for the final wave of 1e. When people are willing to, either on vassal or irl, I try to play 2e proxy games. Overall I'm excited to just play games.

Honestly, 2.0 has pretty much killed my interest in 1.x. Every time I play now, all I can think of is, "We won't have to deal with THAT kind of nonsense in 2nd Edition!"

Part of it may be that, despite having played for over a year, I'm still a complete rookie at the game. Since my very first game, my ships get destroyed so fast that I don't have time to learn anything EXCEPT that my opponents' lists are much stronger than mine. Part of me hopes that 2.0 will dampen certain styles enough to actually let me learn the game properly.

I'm enjoying it an awful lot more than I was 3 months ago, but part of that was due to the incredible Vassal League and the variety of things I faced my great win record might have something to do with it too.... But I've had a lot of problems in casual matches where it's essentially rock-paper-scissors in the PS-war.

Mid-skill aces beat swarms.
High-skill aces beat mid-skill aces.
Swarms beat high-skill aces. Except high skill aces have harpoons a lot of the time. So really it's rock-paper-scissors-gun.

Kylo is very popular at the moment, and he's a real nightmare to play against. So is just about everything that doesn't exist in 2.0. So I keep finding myself thinking people should adopt the 2.0 mentality before its forced upon them, because it's a much funner experience.

I am having fun because it’s always been fun for me. Sure I’ve been frustrated with some of the stuff that’s come up but I’ve never disliked the game.

Same here. My collection Is not that big and I realized, there is plenty of stuff I literaly never played. Last week I played with Roark Garnet for the first time.

Myself and my club have pretty much stopped playing 1.0 with the exception of those practicing for the euros.

In the meantime we are all playing the excellent HOTAC, which is great change in dynamic.

I'm enjoying it more knowing that the underpowered rubbish I am using now will have me trained for 2.0.

Honestly I've been enjoying it a lot. Whilst I didn't make it to euros, I've played more games in the last month than the preceding 6, so I'm enjoying the game again instead of moping about not getting to play.

Ultimately, I'm looking forward to 2.0, I'm just concerned there'll be a bit of a 'hiccup' in continuity because I can't afford the conversion set straight off (and really can't afford the double-conversion-kit I probably need for my favourite squad).

I’m all about Legion right now until 2.0 comes out.

Could you just send them to me instead? I won't be buying most of the new blisters, so I could really use them for draft formats and new players.

It seems pretty dead in the water. I haven't played, but those I know that do are still complaining about people bringing broken s#hit. Problem is, nobody knows whether 2.0 will mean the end of broken s#hit or not. Still it's a great move for the game, and something tells me that leaving 1.0 in the dust makes more sense. Embrace the change.

1.0 is currently amazingly awesome if you are sticking to OT ships and specifically their fixes but nothing else past wave 3. You also want to keep crew from epic ships as epic... /gives C-3PO the stink eye

The X-Wing with S-Foils, IA, and a torpedo reduction? - Awesome.

The Dark Lord of the Sith in his fixed TIE Advanced with ATC - Awesome.

TIE Fighters Howlrunner Swarm or named pilots? - Awesome

Lambda Shuttle Doomshuttle version with Vader, Or even Jendon? - Awesome

Y-Wings with the BTL-A4 option? - Awesome.

A-Wings with Refit and Test Pilot? - Awesome.

B-Wings with Advanced Sensors or FCS? - Awesome.

TIE Bombers? Rhymer is over costed, but in OT meta, 5 bombers with proxy mines, 2 with extra munitions?!?! - Awesome.

PtL Named Interceptors? - Awesome.

YT-1300 with no C-3PO or R2-D2 crew? Awesome.

Heck, it isn't OT, but throw a Jan Ors HWK, Kyle Katarn focus generator, or Roark Garnett (Yay WEG!!!) for PS shenanigans - Awesome.

In later waves this game became really muddy with interactions, timing and needed tinkering, but if you look back at those early waves, everything is on par. Remember the terrific TIE swarm vs. Biggs walks the dogs in 2013? Those were great lists, but trust me, run fixed Vader with predator and EU and the named TIEs (Backstabber, Mauler, Dark Curse ,Night Beast) they'll stand toe to toe with either of those lists. Fixed Vader is amazing with anything really in the early waves, probably the best pilot/ship in the game which is kinda thematic.

You can even fit loaded out Luke, Wedge, Biggs and add in a prototype A-Wing. There's a lot to like right now in 1.0 if you stick to the early ships.

Much less. As a casual player who gets to play competitively once a month at most, going to store kit tournaments to play against people flying Nym/Miranda or Ghost/Fenn just isn't a lot of fun. I really hope that 2.0 manages to break through the meta of one or two OP lists that you either fly or lose against. Hopefully 2.0 makes a lot of different lists viable and can sustain that variation as it moves into future waves.

Playing and enjoying 1.0 just fine. 2.0 is months away, and Store Championship season is starting! Not to mention we've got a System Open at the end of the month.

I've got lots of X-Wing to play! :)

How are players not going to be able to build creative lists?

I keep wanting to just chill, fly casual, and enjoy the last days of 1.0 and my favourite ships (TIE/Ds in particular).

But... I dunno, I never seem to find the actual motivation to get out and actually fly stuff.

Not quite a funk, but I still feel a bit guilty about it.

Less interested, can't wait for 2.0. Mostly reading up and analyzing the coming changes

ditto.

I've stopped playing. My favorite list isn't going to be a thing in 2.0, so I'm just going to wait and see what inspires me at release.

I have been flying a X7 Defender, LWF Countdown Striker , TLT LWF Aggressor and a manlger Cannon Gunboat with outmaneuver . It has been amazing, give it a try and see what comes from it.

About the same. Enjoying some old lists and pilots that won’t make it to 2E. Really looking forward to Saw and the Reaper here soon. Got some x-Wing builds and I want to stick Krennic on Echo for some shenanigans.

I have no desire whatsoever to play 1.0 at this point, solely due to the fact that the players in my area are incapable of turning off their "must win" attitudes. 1.0 had a lot of fun aspects to it, but when you play against lists like 100 pt Miranda, Dash + Regen, Triple Wookies, Ghost Fenn, etc. it's hard for me to see it as a good game.

I could try going to my local store championship, but I just know that the fun will stop as soon as I face one of a few exceptional individuals who insists on running one of the aforementioned degenerate lists. I would rather not play then have to look someone in the eyes as they play the dumbest list for an hour, while still taking the win.

On the other hand, I've proxied all of the main 2.0 components so far and I can say that it is a wonderful game. September is too far away though.

Trying to play a good amount of 1.0 still, as i have at least 2 to 5 store champs and gencon to attend.
