Forgotten Age Serpent from Yoth - HELP!

By Bitchininthekitchen, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Card states

"While there are 1 or more vengeance points in the victory display, Serpent from Yoth gains retaliate.
While there are 2 or more vengeance points in the victory display, Serpent from Yoth gains hunter.
While there are 3 or more vengeance points in the victory display, Serpent from Yoth takes 1 less damage from each attack made against it."

So if we have 4 vengeance in the display then he gets retaliate, hunter and does 1 less damage from each attack right?

The 1 less damage thing seems crazy, unless you have something out that does +1 extra damage when attacking then, you're screwed, right?

That's right, yes. You need some weapons out, or combat spells, or that thing is not going down.

TO be fair, any group should have either a way to evade monsters reliably, or some guardians or mystics who can dish out damage.

They introduced this idea in Lord of the Rings LCG as "Toughness", but it's way more punishing here because in LOTR you can way overkill. In Arkham, you're not going to be totally screwed but it's way harder to kill. You'll need Weapons or Spells and Vicious Blows. But again, you'd probably have either of those easily. Or grab Monster Slayer?

You can always Mind Wipe it, but yeah, the easiest solution is just to avoid getting to 4 Vengeance, as that seems to be the tipping point

Yeah, there was mention on Arkhamdb that Mind Wipe is a much stronger card in Forgotten Age since it can wipe the Vengeance points from monsters (not just bosses, but things like that Boa that has Vengeance 2). It doesn't completely eliminate the problem, but it does solve it temporarily, which is often all you need in this game.

Ah, ok.

Thanks for your clarification guys. Much appreciated.

Yes, we took it out with Mindwipe once the vengeance got too high. Very happy to see that card become more useful.

3 for this card, actually.

And I love the way this campaign has us balancing Vengeance, Poison, Trauma. It's so much more interesting than just trying to push against the doom-clock and don't die, don't die, don't die.

As I understand it, the next mission has actual choices during it. So excited!:D
