Well the best part about buying cards is that you support the people who actually make the game, and help it continue to expand and be updated.

right and i'd much rather play with those cards, but finding local players is very difficult. So i'm happy to support the game but if i don't need to buy them to play then better off saving money

You should try making some local players by teaching people.
