Best X-Wing podcasts?

By Wiredin, in X-Wing

Thread for the best X-wing podcasts: showcase them here

I’ll give a shoutout to the Birmingham Barons Podcast, winner of Goldie for Best New Podcast at Worlds. They talk strategy, tournament results, recently reveals, and the occasional Star Wars Movie review. A good and fun listen.

Krayts keep me chuckling and my electrolyte levels solid.

Having met and slammed a few beers with the Gold Squadron guys, they are solid. Nates on top? Ehh, one day if I keep dreaming.

Lots of good others.

Stay on Target if you don't count the fact that Gordon is the Worst™.

It really depends on what you want from an X-Wing podcast.

Do you want a quick, concise recap of news, edited to be super-tight and on-point? Radio TCX will not make you late.

Do you want four casual guys, playing casual games and alternative formats? Shuttle Tydirium, will clear your older code.

Do you want a well-balanced show where the host gets progressively drunker, one guy rants well (and with reason), one guy rants loudly (and with extreme bias), and a couple of guys know the math well? Scum and Villainy will hold your beer.

Do you want a wholesome-ish show with three very likable hosts who obviously have a great deal of affection and respect for each other? Mynock Squadron will chew your cables.

These four above are my current go-tos.

I haven't listened to the Krayts in quite a while, as they've just ranged too far afield for me, for too many hours of gibberish. But once they regain some focus, I'll be back for the occasional enjoyable laugh. (They really make me laugh.) And I've actually never listened to Gold Squadron, though I frequent the Twitch stream.

EDITED because I realized that I just described the Krayts as Off Topic. Too soon? (Also typos.)

There are exactly 2 answers to this question.

Carolina Krayts and Mynock Squadron are the two most enjoyable. I only listen to some of the others when I am waiting for a new episode from one of those two.

Here are several I listen to. I'd suggest listening to an episode of each and see what you like.

Birmingham Barons: Loved this one as a new player. Great bunch of guys!

Gold Squadron: Great X-wing coverage nation wide with live stream videos from major events.

Back to Dials:

The Kessel Run:

OCX Radio:

Radio TCX: The headline news of X-Wing. Short and sweet

Scum and Villainy:

512 Squadon: Great commentary and topics but Gene drops too many F*bombs and GDs so can't listen around kids.

Hornet Squadron:

Mynock Squadron:

The Shuttle Tydirum: Great for casual and alternate format play. They love their Ewoks though.

Wraith Squadron: Started off great but haven't had a podcast in a Month and they're mixing Legion in with it.

Nova Squadron Radio for the win!

Unfortunately it's all just reruns, and the battle reports are still 5 hours long.

Whatever happened to Nova Squadron? Did first edition cancer kill them?

Go with what @Jeff Wilder said. Another one to check out is H*ll of a Pilot. They're Australian and are fun. Their sevgments are pretty good. Not too heavy into analysis though.

Ed stopped playing X-wing, and he was the driving force behind it. There's rumors that it might kick up again, who knows!

Most have their merits, but if I were to pick one, it'd be the Birmingham Barons.

BIG ACRYLIC!

Guess i should check out the Barons.

My faves in no particular order:

Radio TCX

Back to Dials

Stay on Target

Mynock Squadron.

Guys Nova has new episodes.

Birmingham Barons is wholesome.

Hornet squadron is funny.

Scum & Villiany Or GSP for meta news.

shuttle tydirum is always great for alternate format information.

(Also they could do a webinar series with just the way they set up the scenarios on the podcast, think radio drama).

I also give TCX and back to dials a listen to hear how things are going in other parts of the US.

I like

Shuttle Tydirium for all the non-tourney stuff. Their audio drama was great as well.

He l l of a Pilot, refreshing with a non US perspective, also their Holonet news and lore section is fun . They have started an audio drama as well.

Birmingham Barons, concise, and rather strict time control, they normally do not stray off too far and keep tightly to the clock! Unlike many of the other tournament podcasts.

Otherwise what @Jeff Wilder says above. Guess I have to check out Tcx again.

Some podcast have names which trigger the forums censorship :)

That was hilarious. ?

We all know it's the krayts

I'll throw in a vote for the Shuttle Tydirium gents, with H3ll of a Pilot as the up and coming, hungry, second place. Both are charming, entertaining, and strongly casual.

186th are ace. Great content delivered by a bunch of good guys. They actually respect each other and the game too which is nice.

Mynock Squadron. I use to like Scum and Villainy best, but they are now number 2

Radio TCX!!!

Straight, simple, to the point.

The Krayts, podcast and forum thread, are the best source for high level x-wing content. You have to dig through the memes to get to them, and be good enough to understand what's being said, because they rarely walk listeners through their thinking (the listener série does, a must listen).

The Mynocks were great, but have settled in maybe a bit too much. The new edition may shake them out of it.

Millenium Condor has the deepest dives into content like prepping for a tournament, what to look for in cheaters, figuring out what makes you tick, etc. It's generally very well researched and will serve you a side of introspection. It's in French, however. Their Loremaster quiz shows are in English and they are amazingly hilarious!

I'll second the Loremaster quizzes. Really funny. Makes me want to be on one.
