Overlapping during Advanced Slam

By Schu81, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello XWing Community.

I need your help, because there is a rule question about Advanced Slam in my local community.

Scenario:

Major Vynder (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)
Unguided Rockets (2)
Advanced SLAM (2)
Os-1 Arsenal Loadout (2)

Total: 41

This ship performs a 2 bank maneuver. After this he performs a 2 turn SLAM action, which causes the maneuver template to overlap an asteroid. The final position of Major Vynder does not overlap any obstacles or other ships, but as mentioned before, the maneuver template cleary went over the asteroid.

Question:

Can Major Vynder now perform an action (and another action via PTL) ?

It seems incredibly strong, if moving over asteroids during a SLAM doesn't have any negative impact on the action efficiency.

And what about damage? Does Major Vynder have to roll for asteroid damage, just like during a "normal" maneuver?

Thanks for your help & greetings :)

Advanced SLAM does not grant an action if the ship's maneuver template overlapped an obstacle.

Quote

Overlapping an obstacle occurs when the maneuver template or the ship's final position overlaps an obstacle. Overlapping a ship occurs when the ship's final position would overlap a ship.

Taken from X-WING FAQ "Card Clarifications: Advanced SLAM"

He also must roll for damage since his maneuver template crossed an obstacle while executing a maneuver.

He can use PTL though.

Always imoprtant to remember.

Advanced SLAM specifically says you cannot use it after hitting an obstacle or overlapping a ship. PTL only says "after you perform an action" and the execution of your SLAM maneuver is performing an action. Whether that maneuver was fully successful or not is irrelevant.

So if you flew through a rock, landed on a rock, or bumped on another ship doesn't matter, you can still PTL off a SLAM.
