Darth Vader's Security Forces (Snowtrooper paint job)

By Xiervak, in Painting

Inspired by a link another forum member shared awhile back, these snowtroopers are painted red to resemble what the Subject suggests, found here on Star Wars Wiki: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Vader's_Security_Force

I hope you enjoy them! I really like how they turned out. I thought the Crait-like base would come out more... crack-y, but I think they are table presentable nonetheless.

PS if there is a way I can include the images without resorting to using imur, lmk.

It's an interesting take on them, but the coloration looks kind of off. Not entirely sure if it's the pics or the actual colors. It also looks far to "samey" in coloration.

Personally, I'd say a darker red option would work better for the scheme, saving the brighter reds for highlights.

I love the concept! I'd give them a wash or some drybrushing to bump up the contrast. As much as I love a classic white stormtrooper, I'm tempted to try something like this now..

As for images, after you upload to imgur, then paste a link with the .jpg extension at the end. Right click the image and click "Copy image address" to get it.

I went with a bright red for two reasons. 1) The example on the wiki page I wasbasing them on is also bright red. 2) I figured the closest Canon example they resembled were the Emperor's Bodyguard, and they are also bright red.

The under clothes of the units are a darker red. The knee pads, crotch pad I got with the bright red again to make the contrast clearer.

Thanks for the input!

As mentioned, add a wash and they will be even better looking.

These are very cool. I can see the two tones but they don’t come across all that different. I would suggest a pretty serious dark wash (nuln oil, dark tone etc) on the darker parts. Then I would do all of the hard surfaces with a gloss coat (eg ardcoat) - so the helmet and the knee pads etc. The emperors royal guard and the clearly related Snokes guards (whatever they were) had bright red reflective armor etc.

By simulataneously darkening with a black wash and then making the bright colors reflective it will make it seem like there are shiny and dull parts of the figure and avoid the appearance that it’s just red plastic. You did a great job painting these so a few touch ups seem worthwhile.

Yes sir you have just given me some great inspiration for the next addition for my Imperials. After first reading this thread I was compelled to do some research on Vader's security forces and now I'm definitely going to have to do this. Thank you for the inspiration?
