Legion bases announced -Will they work for IA?

By keschnell, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I don't have Legion, so I have no basis of comparison, so I was wondering who might know. Would the new bases work size-wise with rebasing Imperial Assault, or are they too big due to the different scale? I bought some great Fenris bases for the heroes/allies/main bad guys, but if the sizes worked, would be interested in re-basing non-Elites, etc.

They're probably going to make your dudes a heck of a lot taller than you're used to, but size wize they should still fit in the gridlines I think.

I don't think these are any thicker than the bases that Sorastro uses for his iconic characters, no? Maybe a bit thicker.

Either way, on the table you rarely notice the height difference but you definitely notice the detail.

They'll look a little different, but it's not like exact size matters in IA.

Oh man... I must have those for my imperial figures. Been trying to hand-paint something similar on them - the pain!

All my imperial assault figures come with built in bases

IA base ~ 25mm

Legion base ~ 27 mm

but the Legion base is a lot thicker (about twice)

I'm not too concerned about the thickness, if I put all my imperial figures on them, it'll pan out the same. I'm much more concerned about those two millimeters when putting ten figures next to eachother on the map.

They look like you're standing on the outside a ISD or other imperial wedge.

Most if not all the IA tiles are grass, rocks, sand and a little tile and carpet. They just don't match anything, not even Legion maps

Unless you use clear bases, your bases won't match anything. For me, having similar bases unifies the look of the squad. Especially since I play mostly Scum, who can easily look like a rag-tag band, having a unified base helps a lot with making the squad one whole.

I must be missing something. Can someone explain why anyone would want or need to use these for IA? The work involved to make your figures look like their standing on metal hatches and such doesn't seem worth it. S#hit, even for Legion these don't look very much like battlefield pieces which I was told IS THE WHOLE GAME (battlefields).

Because handpainting that kind of stuff on a flat base takes forever. That's more or less what I'm doing now and I have a pile of finished figures that still lack the bases because it takes forever and is extremely boring to paint.
