Eh. It's served me well enough for around 25 years. I won't lie and say I haven't been tempted to change my mind from time to time. Out in the world, I have to choose whether or not to interact with people who have the same right to the same space as I do. I don't have the luxury of putting a soundproof wall around them.

I encourage everyone to find their own path in life. If it works for you, good! But I would be remiss if I agreed we were talking about the same thing - I am talking about one tiny portion of one tiny hobby on one tiny website on one tiny corner of the internet, wherein ignoring people who have proven to annoy me is No Big Deal™. This isn't a blanket personal censorship of Life As We Know It.

If someone gets really annoying I stick them on ignore. But I also tend to purge ignore lists every so often. People don’t often stay annoying for a long time. Usually they mellow or get banned anyway.

That's totally fair. I don't begrudge anyone using an ignore list. Having moderated a handful of sites, maybe I'm just in the habit of shrugging off the inevitable jerks and idiots. After being cussed out and threatened for enforcing the rules people agreed to when signing up, user-to-user conflict is nothing.

Thinking more about it, maybe there's some paranoia, too. After a guy we knew only from a message board begain cyber-stalking me, a friend, and my friend's (now) wife, not to mention hacking into their systems and threatening the wife (then doing some federal time), I think I just like seeing what some of those folks are up to publicly...see if they're broadcasting any red flags.

So, yeah...that's all me. Didn't mean to make it sound like I was frowning upon those who use ignore lists. If I did, apologies.

I only have a few on my ignore list, but ErikB was reallllly annoying. They actually, finally, banned him - and that says something here.

I think Erik is the only person on my list - and that's mostly because I'm too lazy to remove him, and since he hasnt been seen around in ages and ages, I'm not in a rush to remove him.

He came back under a couple of different handles (and was just as abrasive even to folks that tried to be considerate to him), but finally left for good when the Force & Destiny Beta came out it became clear he wasn't going to get the uber-munchkin Jedi demi-gods that he'd been whining about the system lacking ever since the EotE Beta dropped.

Funny thing. When he was around people, on a whole, were a lot more civil to each other here because everyone had a common enemy and it brought them together.

If I am not mistaken ErikB itself was his second or third handle.

All of you have a unique perspective that adds something to my understanding, so thank you for that. I might not always agree with you, but even in disagreement I see that your comments are rooted not in anger but in a differing perspective. That’s a good sign for the overall community of the forum.
