Sloane v Raddus - Another Narrative Report

By smashthedean, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Hi all! I have a battle report to share for the game I got in last night against a clubmate. I was running a Sloane list, which is fairly new territory for me as I typically run minimum fighter screens at best and my opponent was running a Raddus list with an MC75 and an MC80 Liberty. Our lists were:

[172] ISD I: sloane, tua, flight controllers, EHB, boosted comms, leading shots, QBT, avenger, ECM
[66] Arquitens Light Cruiser: needa, TRC, centicore
[25] Gozanti Cruisers: comms net
[134] Maarek, Jendon, Dengar, Ciena, Howlrunner, Mauler, Valen, Saber Squadron
Advanced Gunnery, Fighter Ambush, Superior Positions
397 TOTAL

vs

[151] MC75 Armored Cruiser: raddus, hardened bulkheads, EWS, external racks, XI7
[129] MC80 Star Cruiser: gunnery team, engine techs, leading shots, H9, XI7
[61] CR90A: engine techs, TRC, jaina's light
[19] GR-75: quantum storm
[31] YT-2400, VCX-100
Most Wanted, Planetary Ion Cannon, Solar Corona
391 TOTAL

He chose first player and picked my Superior Positions and here's the report:

Rae Sloane sat alone in her quarters studying the ISB report on the Rebel Outpost orbiting Felucia when the door chimed. "Enter," she ordered in a passive tone, not taking her eyes from the report. Imperial Intelligence wasn't what it used to be since Palpatine's death, but she had it on good authority that this piece of intel was solid: The Mon Calimari Admiral Raddus, presumed dead since the Battle of Scarif, had resurfaced and was overseeing construction of a series of Rebel outposts along the Perlemian Trade Route. Her report indicated that this outpost was nearly operational, but had experienced a malfunction in its defensive systems leaving it uniquely vulnerable to capture. If we can capture the data cores on board this station, we will have a complete picture of Alliance fleet movements in the Outer Rim. With information like that, maybe we can finally get a foothold and strike back against these Rebel scum...

"Excuse me Admiral," came a voice from the doorway. "We're nearing the Felucia system and our long range scans show a portion of Raddus' fleet guarding the station."

Sloane looked up at the ensign waiting at attention and nodded, "Then we'd best make our way to the bridge," And see if we can catch that old fish by surprise...

As Sloane walked out onto the Avenger 's bridge, the crew snapped to attention before being given the 'at ease' signal by the Admiral. The blue tunnel of hyperspace undulated chaotically through the Star Destroyer's viewport as Sloane stepped across the raised walkway toward the command station. "What are we looking at Captain?"

The ship's captain replied, "Raddus' flagship is patrolling near the station along with a Rebel blockade runner. There also appears to be a group of transports and civilian freighters moving away from the station on the far side," As he spoke, he brought up a visual display of the battlefield.

Sloane's eyes narrowed as she studied the display. The sensor scanners had been thorough on this one, we'll be able to choose our position as we see fit... She pointed to a section of the map near a small asteroid field a short distance from the fleeing transports. "Drop us in there. If I know Raddus, he's holding a portion of his fleet in reserve. If we move in from this flank, we should be able to avoid any surprises." The captain nodded and began giving the orders as Sloane studied the readout. Before long, the hyperspace tunnel gave way to a sea of stars and a green-tinged planet floating in the background. As the data had shown, an MC75 Cruiser and CR90 Corvette were positioned near the station and a group of transports and freighters were moving away in the opposite direction. To her left, the light cruiser Centicore dropped into position and a flotilla of Gozanti Cruisers dropped in off the Avenger 's starboard flank.

The captain stood at the ready along with the rest of her bridge crew and saluted formally, "The fleet is ready Admiral, we await your command."

Without hesitation, Sloane began giving her orders and the bridge erupted in activity, "Scramble all fighters and send the Centicore around to cut off those transports. Bring the Avenger around the asteroids to face off with that Cruiser!" At her command, dozens of fighters issued forth from the Avenger 's hanger bay; two entire wings were under Sloane's command and she had personally underseen their formation. Unlike the standard compliment of TIE/LN Fighters common to most Star Destroyers, Sloane had assembled the 317th Fighter Group with great care and had handpicked the flight leaders from the best pilots in the Empire. The Rebel freighters, a YT-2400 and an older model VCX-100 were moving to block her squadrons, but they were no match for the Imperial starfighters' speed and agility and were quickly left behind as the TIEs began raining fire down on the Rebel Transports. Before long, the last of the transports erupted in a concussive explosion as the Rebel capital ships were still maneuvering toward the battle lines.

As the Avenger increased speed to take it around an asteroid cluster, a proximity alarm went off and a Lieutenant at a nearby sensor station called out, "Admiral! We have a large ship exiting hyperspace up ahead!"

As expected , thought Sloane, Raddus thought to use the transports as a beacon to bring in the rest of his fleet, but now he has no choice but to face us head on. Sure enough, an MC80 Star Cruiser emerged from hyperspace astride Raddus' flagship MC75. Maintaining her calm despite the unfavorable odds of facing two Mon Calimari Cruisers head on, Sloane ordered her squadrons to move in and attack the newly arrived cruiser. If we can focus them down one at a time, we might just have a shot... She watched as her fighter group, led by the task force's Flight Commander, Maarek Stele at the head of a squadron of TIE Defenders, rained down heavy fire on the MC80. The fighter barrage had almost completely depleted its shields by the time the cruiser opened fire with its fore turbolasers, lightly damaging the Avenger 's forward shielding, but catching the flotilla of Gozanti Cruisers in the field of fire and obliterating the smaller crafts.

"They've entered torpedo range!" called out the ship's weapons officer as the MC80 grew larger through the viewscreens.

"Open fire!" ordered Sloane, pointing a finger at the approaching ship. The Star Destroyer's foreward batteries erupted forth as a hail of laser fire and proton torpedoes streamed through the void toward the Mon Calamari ship.

"We report heavy damage to the enemy ship," came a voice from the operations deck, "but they are still operational." Sloane cursed under her breath; the gunners had not fired with enough accuracy to target the vital components of the enemy cruiser or else they'd have been destroyed. Another volley of fire burst forth from the MC80 and the bridge shook under the impact.

"Damage report!" called out Sloane.

A bridge officer replied, "Our shields are still holding Admiral."

"Then keep firing!" Sloane focused on the tactical readouts as the Imperial Star Destroyer sent another blast of firepower into the Star Cruiser, sending explosions cascading throughout the bumpy hull of the Rebel ship until the vessel eventually lit up in a massive fireball that split the hull in pieces. One of the wing sections collided with the Avenger , causing minor hull damage, but the majority of the cruiser was burnt up in the explosion as the Star Destroyer advanced on the MC75 behind the swarm of TIEs already straining the shields of the oncoming vessel.

By this time, the Centicore had come about and lit up the starboard flank of the cruiser with long range turbolaser fire. Sloane drew in a sharp breath as the enemy ship trained its guns her way, but they were still too far out for the heavy torpedoes of the enemy vessel to reach her. Soon though, the MC75 reached torpedo range and a massive cloud of enemy projectiles began racing toward the Avenger . Sloane gripped a nearby handrail and called out, "Brace for impact!" as the torpedoes began crashing against the Star Destroyer's shields and eventually breaking through to explode against the hull. Explosions rocked the Avenger as the bridge lights shifted to red, damage warnings flashing across the consoles. The Rebel Corvette had flanked around to the Star Destroyer's starboard side and was now bringing its guns to bear on her ship's rear shields, which flickered weakly on her tactical readout. As Raddus' flagship finally buckled under the combined fire of the Avenger and her fighter wings, the bridge was rocked by another series of explosions from the rear of the ship and Sloane lost her footing, falling from the command platform to the floor of the operations deck below.

"We've lost main power Admiral!" called out a voice amidst the ringing in her ears, "We're disabled!" Another explosion shook the ship as the Rebel Corvette sped past the portside viewport, followed by dozens of fighters keeping pace. Even as the Star Destroyer began to drift admist the debris, Sloane watched as the Centicore 's turbolasers made short work of the Rebels' remaining ship.

"We can begin repairs later," spoke Sloane as she braced herself against a nearby console and struggled to stand. "Prepare boarding parties and help me to the shuttle bay. That station is ours."

In the end it was a 9-2 win for me having lost my ISD and flotilla, completely tabling him, and grabbing a couple of Superior Positions tokens along the way. Thanks for the read and if you like the format, check out the other narrative report that I wrote linked below:

Nice batrep! If there was a way to include pictures too, that would be pretty cool.
