Simple question (that I couldn't find anywhere while searching on the forums) - does Derlin reduce damage to shields or just hull damage or does it simply subtract one from the damage pool prior to being assigned to shields/hull?

He reduces total damage in the pool, so it won't matter where the damage is going (shields or no).

This is also how other direct damage dealing/reducing effects (ie. Moff Jerry or debris fields) resolve, in case you did not already know.

Derlin is really good, f you're not using Mon Karren, look into Damage Control Officer+Endeavor. HIE's, APTs etc. will all be useless against that combo.
