What is the one ship you hate playing against?

By Fuzzywookie, in Star Wars: Armada

As a mainly Imperial player Yavaris, when Rieekan is in town, you just can't kill enough in one turn.

I can see why Rebel scum players hate Demo though, fast. hits hard in a last first punch, but it is fragile, needs Tua & ECM's to keep the brace token to survive a big ships initial hit or its counter when you don't kill it.

MC30s, too fast, too tough, hits too hard. Basically everything game-breaking on the Rebels side from wave 2 came out in the MC30 kit. Don't know how the heck it made it through testing.

It's a Rebel Gladiator, I have no problem until Lando is put on it.......... Then I hate it.

It's getting to be the MC80L. Curse you, @Card Knight!

Nailed it.

It relies on the shields and redirecting. Hit it with anything substantial and it dies quickly - x17 helps a lot.

I don't like Interdictors - or at least, targetting scramblers.

If I see an Interdictor on the table I'm probably hoping for a 6/5 as best case result.

Motti ISD with blast doors ?

Oh, i can kill them. If I win the bid war. I just hate playing against them.

Admonition. Every time. Especially with Lando.

I LOVE running it, but damnery it is frustrating when it comes haring at you and you just can't stop the sod in its attack run. I've learned to stop wasting shots on it unless I've got some serious follow through or huge dice pools.

Home one type mc80s just because of the shields

I find XI-7's to be my solution to this problem on nearly any ship.

Interdictor Combat. They clearly know something I dont.

Good one :D

Slicer Flotillas.

When playing vs Imperials it is an ISD. When playing Vs Rebels it is an MC75 when Raddus is involved if used correctly.

I really don't like playing against a Rebel fleet with 3-4 GR-75s that are scattered through out the field, it was just too distracting, thanks to the latest FAQs I don't have to deal with them

Against Imps: Demolisher. As much because I see a disappointing percentage of Imperial tournament players relying on it as a crutch as anything else. Though that has gotten better in recent waves.

Against Rebels: Eh..?? They don’t have anything that pisses me off when I face them. Maybe Yavaris when they bring 2-3 VCX, but not even Yavaris itself.

Another for Yavaris, especially with Rieekan. A literally unbeatable combination for many fleets. You can outfly or outplay Demolisher, your only choice vs Yavaris with many fleets is to avoid the fight entirely and aim for the 5-6 loss.

No arguing that Demolisher is efficient for the point. But it goes down hard when dealing with effective squadron support. It can also be chased or lured off very effectively with smart maneuvering.

My grief is more along the lines of watching the house of cards fall apart when Demolisher dies. Including at least one game where my opponent was so bad at flying anything but Demolisher that his ISD2 did not manage to get a front arc shot on my Home One (with no engine techs). He kept it to a only 7-4 loss for him because Demolisher last-firsted and blew up two CR90s. The entire rest of the game was in order:

1) Demolisher died

2) He didn’t land a meaningful hit while I destroyed another 90 points of his fleet.

3) My remaining two ships and all squadrons survived.

This wasn’t an exception, but pretty typical for a long time against Imperials.

So I’m specifically referring to Demolisher being used to compensate for incompetence or inexperience. It’s why I always encourage anyone getting into Imperials in Armada to buy Demolisher last. So they learn how to play.

Yavaris is sometimes a crutch where where the whole fleet falls apart without it, but a lot of the times the people getting to Worlds final tables are able to roll with losing Yavaris.

So yeah, I hate seeing Demolisher. I think it is terrible game design. I’d love to see it banned from tourney play. I sometimes hate Yavaris, but it doesn’t default to being a crutch like Demolisher does. To be fair, sometimes Demolisher isn’t and sometimes Yavaris is.

I don't see a correlation between what you think are incompetent players and the need for a ban. I use it and I also hit with its ISD-mate. Even been true they are incompetent what's the problem with Demo then? Does it make them good players? ah! Someone got to kill two cr90 with it. Maybe banning Demo is also a crutch...

I am a new player. Have core set. Light carrier. Squadron 1and 2 pack. Demolisher. Just got the raider. Yes for that ONE card. Lol. I just wanted to be semi competitive. Not get me **** handed to me every game. I guess I’m one of those players. ? Plus. I think it looks frikin awesome.

My thoughts could have been more concise. But in general it is a card that could cost twice as much as it does and would still see the table.

Maybe be the simplest way I can put it is comparing it to Avenger. Avenger (pre-nerf) was “abusable,” but requires multiple moving parts. Either you dictated your commander, or you had to have several ships working together to make it scary. It has a low skill floor to use, a higher skill floor to really abuse, and a performance ceiling that is meta-defining. Except for BT, it’s an interesting card.

Demolisher has virtually no skill floor to use and a low skill floor to abuse. It’s performance ceiling isn’t as meta-defining as Avenger, so you don’t see it at top tables as often. That doesn’t change that the stupidly low skill floor to abuse makes it an extraordinarily convenient crutch for a new player. That bothers me. The part that makes me hate everything about that card is that - to use it most effectively - it encourages activation spam and abuse. Those mechanics are the death of fun to me and make me hate the card so much.

Which is sad, because I like the GSD without Demolisher.

The same could be said for Admonition with Lando on board, the Glads Achilles heel is those lovely black dice, without first last, Glads get creamed on the way in. I had it with a multiple Glad list against multiple kittens with Vader and TRC's, by the time you are in the position to hit them you have no shields and a big chunk of your hull gone. Demo title at least gives the Glad a fighting chance, whether it's by low skill players like me or experts. Unlike Yavaris paired with Rieekan I have not seen a World champ with a Screed Demo list.
