Vader List - Vader + Corps + Bikes - 799pts

By Copes, in Army Building

Hey guys,

Thought I would post the list I am using locally for critique. I played this list yesterday in an Escalation Event, and although I lost the final game (which was the full point game) it was a nailbiter and I largely think I made a couple of critical errors. I've had some great success with this list otherwise.

There was a discussion elsewhere on the forums about Vader's strength, I thought I would post this list which I think works well with what he is good at. Vader and Snowtroopers (and maybe a DLT based on your opponents deployment) should march forward and hold a key position near the centre of the battlefield. Invite your opponent to engage you. Meanwhile, Bikes harass, and your remaining DLTs should provide support from a distance. I also think that Vader's strength is working with Corps units (versus Veers who does great with Vehicles) so I try to surround Vader with some powerful Corps instead of a third set of bikes.

In terms of my troopers, I think the DLTs and Flametroopers are fairly self-explanatory. I put grenades on all Troopers because it makes them incredibly threatening up close. At Range 1, every single unit has blast and ignores cover. Additionally, inside range 1, I get to upgrade to black dice. The white dice on attack is the biggest weakness of Stormtroopers, and it also makes it very hard to remove pesky Rebels with dodge tokens in cover. Now all of my Corps units can deal with it. Impact Grenades on Snowtroopers since they already have blast but struggle to deal with armor, Concussion Grenades on Stormtroopers since DLTs have Impact but they struggle to deal with cover.

I think this list is pretty good, but as always, feedback is helpful!

Hey there Copes,

So I haven't run much Vader since Veers came out. I've been trying to find the right blend of Veers and AT-ST with corps groups.

But I want to play Vader. The list looks like a lot of fun.

So my question was around the concussion grenades on the DLT squads, do you ever use them? I hate not having the extra stormy on the DLT squads, but those 33 points go a long way. For the Snowies, I think the targeting scopes are vital, but I'm still a novice to the snowies.

Are you rushing Vader and the Snowies in?

Heres a version Ive been trying out. I like comms on the bikes. And the HH-12 has come in handy. Since he has concussion grenades, some games he can rush in next to the snowtroopers and help blast through cover and some games he stays back and fires rockets and helps take out armor targets.

Certainly some variation is possible - to each their own.

@ImperialOfficer I've ended up using the Concussion Grenades more often than you'd think. Could certainly remove them all to bulk up one unit if you want to. I find they are great when fighting for objectives. I've been insituations where both units are close, but bunkered down in heavy cover firing back and forth to try and take an objective. Being able to ignore that heavy cover, and upgrade to black dice, is a huge advantage. Its situational, but personally I like having the option as opposed to only being able to add a single Stormtrooper to one unit. Targeting scopes are a preference thing I think - I'm not a big fan, but fair enough.

@Gun4hire Fair enough, definitely a decent similar list. I don't really like the HH-12s for their point cost, personally, but I know many players do. I'd rather have the Flametrooper. Long Range Comms aren't a bad upgrade at all - if I had 20 more points that's likely what I would spend it on. I think when comparing your list to mind, you removed the right Force Power on Vader.

Yeah when it comes to vader I feel its mandatory to take saber throw and force reflexes. And since hes already so expensive at 225pts anything after that is just better spent else where.

Thanks for the feedback about the concussion grenades, I was just curious about how the tactics worked for you. Fun Stuff.
