Do you plan to do a "no squadron coverage" in light of this?
I might be alone, but would like to know more about, how can I use this to my advantage

I'll be writing it, because CLEARLY I can never talk enough about the squadron game. I'm on vacation this weekend, so theoretically you might even see it Monday (you won't)!
4 hours ago, Snipafist said:In my experience, it mostly comes down to the fact that against other squad-heavy fleets your bombing assets (in most typical Sloane fleets, Maarek+Jendon, but also including TIE Phantoms, which are flimsier) will be destroyed with prejudice unless you destroy enemy squadrons first, and then you're stuck with Sloane's biggest issue of generally being poor at going after enemy ships. I realize your retort is going to be "that's why TIE Phantoms!" - I'm with you on TIE Phantoms, so you're not going to get a lot of disagreement on that one from me. From others, potentially, but I've used them just fine with Sloane.
Well almost exactly this. If you get a mirror Sloane fight and they have better anti squad than you, then simply dont engage. Keep your squads back and let them attack your ships if they want. The funny thing is that before Sloane we were all quite happy to ignore enemy fighters, but then relay appeared and suddenly they would chase you relentlessly. However, post nerf you can go back to ignoring them, but the fear has built up and too often players are throwing their squadrons in out of fear. Let sloane squads alpha your ships, if they do they will be outside activation range of their ships and be at risk of counter attack, and lets be honest, most sloane balls cant damage a single ship quick enough. Oh no, my ISD front shields are gone... so what? thats it, nothing else is coming.
To specifically explain my ball reasoning I return to your first sentence, that bombing assets will be destroyed with prejudice. This is partially true, I'd argue they tend to go for intel first but the point stands. Hence why I take Black squad, pure escort to take the first hit for no loss to me, and Soontir Fel. Soontir is an interesting unit, he effectively acts as an escort unit with incredible counter. Add in Mauler and I can choose to attack only ships from Dengar intel bubble and still do pretty incredible damage to the enemy squads with Mauler auto damage, Soontir auto damage, black counter and dengar swarm counter, with a hefty side of scatter thrown around. However, thats almost irrelevant, killing squads is a waste of resources in most cases, they do not count for tabling, so you only want to scalpel out the specific threat, in most cases thats just the intel unit and then leave Dengar or Mauler to babysit.
Against my first Rieekan opponent I managed to kill Ten Numb and Luke with my Pryce turn, after which I preceeded to ignore his squads and focus on the ships as they no longer represented much of a threat to me. My ISD had to take some damage from a yavaris boosted Gold and Norra, but nothing that threatened to kill it, just annoy. At the same time, his MC80 crumbled to losing a brace to Maarek and exteme phantom prejudice. My Arq and Gozanti werent even remotely near the fight having been outdeployed, but it didnt really matter, as I could bomb fully and my opponent couldnt.
I am really enjoying this thread. Quite illustrative.
@Ginkapo what was exactly your wing setup? I tried to put something together but is just so out of my confort zone that I am never sure. Advanced seems good as escort but awful with Sloane. Black and Soontir seems fine with Sloane but are they enough? Maybe I just focus too much on protect the phantoms. Also, it was a long time with flotillas and I have a hard time figuring out the ships if I spend 134 points on squadrons. 3 looks so few and if I get 4 is due to 2 flotillas so it becomes even worse...
I believe this was it:

Imperial II (120)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Governor Pryce (7)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Avenger (5)
= 178 Points
Squadrons:

• Dengar (20)
• Soontir Fel (18)

You only need to protect Dengar.... Agressively that means over engaging Soontir and Black for auto pain.

And just ignore enemy wing completely?
Just now, ovinomanc3r said:And just ignore enemy wing completely?
Well not always. But in a lot of cases...
For a while I ran Dengar Mauler and 8 Tie Bombers. With that you basically imagine that you have a two man squad wing of Dengar and Mauler to deal with the enemy. In reality its no different to trying to use just Valen and Ciena, but because you have 8 Tie Bombers you get tempted to use them against enemy squads. Dont, you know you shouldnt.
If the aim is to kill enemy ships then dont get sidetracked. If killing an enemy squad doesnt help you kill ships then dont waste energy doing so.

And what is your use of Centicore? Don't you think xi7 would worth it?

Not the first time that’s been said.
I considered being sneaky with what I’m bringing, but just can’t do it. It’ll be all over the blog.

If it makes you feel better, what I have has existed in most of this form for a solid 2 weeks. I'll JOKE about studying your pictures for analysis, but me teching against you is both a d*ck move and contrary to the spirit of the bet IMO.

No worries at all. FWIW, I want to see Leia do well at the tourney. I just like to write about tourneys, so it doesn’t do me any favors to keep it hidden.
Really I’ll be bringing a slight variation on fleets I’m fairly familiar with. I’m not sure that teching against you would do me any favors against the GenCon field anyways.
Cant wait to face 8 Lancers though.
Honestly @geek19 , I have a hard time believing anyone's going to be teching against a Leia fleet but I can understand not wanting to tip your hand too much. I think it would be fun to keep an ongoing journal of how well you did, what you learned, if it resulted in fleet changes, etc., that was published after Gencon.

That’s a solid idea. I’m trying to do something similar with the Legion army I’m playing there.

Will do, I'm down for that.

I'd read that for reals. Also I need to play Legion again sometime....

Parts of that were in the initial build, yes. Now, though, I'm all over the place.

Hey I sure don't really care for Mandalorian Gauntlet Fighters, to the surprise of nobody reading this thread.

I enjoyed the slight nod to nose Punch at the end
They'd actually be alright with Sato. Shame
