Spinning it's a good trick -- N1 in 2.0

By Commander Kaine, in X-Wing

I like the ideas here. I’ve been working on a 1st edition N-1 that will jump to 2nd. I’m using Rhys Dallows to fill out the four pilots with Shara, Leia, and Soruna mostly because he’s open. He could still be around during the GCW after Starfighter.

I’m not convinced by this idea that the Republic era ships are going to be significantly weaker than Rebellion era ones.

The technology in this world is extremely well developed (they’ve had hyperspace travel for thousands of years), you can’t expect ships to get twenty to thirty percent better every twenty years, otherwise every ship would be a Death Star by now.

Other factors are much more important - intended role, manufacturer, price. The Naboo Starfighter was a work of art - expensive, rare, made by artisans obsessed with perfection. TIE Fighters were... none of those things.

This is very true. A lot of the ships in Star Wars are quite old but still run fine. If anything, clone wars Y-wings should have an extra hull compared to rebel ones, because the rebels ripped off all the hull plating to make repairs more easily.

And if we really want to stick with movie canon, we need some mechanic whereby N-1 starfighters barrel roll constantly after taking a crit.

Fun loving Jedi Knight

At the beginning of the engagement phase fun, you may spend a [force] to gain a focus token.

Only baby Anakin belongs in an N-1, though. This would be great on the eventual Actis, though.

Yes. Very good points

I direct you to the existing thread. We began talking second edition on page 36.

That's being pretty charitable. The cannon for things like Y's and Z's is less that they're still good and relevant and more that they're easy to repair and replacement parts are readily available on the cheap on account of them being decommissioned en masse by the Republic.

I will say that tech in the Star Wars universe seems to have plateaued quite hard, but does still see advances.

To use a modern analog, you could still take an F-15 into the skies of a modern battlefield and with regular maintenance, it will still perform most roles, but if it ever ran into a Gen 5 airframe (F22/F35), it would probably get shot down without even seeing the other aircraft .
