New Latari hero?! (Season 2 kits)

By Parakitor, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Summersong doesn't have an Infantry version and that's ok. I think with the introduction of Lord Vorun'thul we're going to see some unique things coming to each faction in the future. Not throwing my weight behind either argument (hero vs unit), just adding that the design space is shifting. That's a good thing.

I should have clarified; expansion heroes have all had an infantry and cavalry variant so far. Starter box heroes have not (though I still want cavalry Ardus for my DKs). Starter heroes come with a bevvy of other content and therefore can reasonably only come with a single model. Expansion heroes would be tough to sell with only a single cav model and not many upgrade options.

You are correct in that design space is shifting, and I agree that is awesome. But I don't see how they can sell this guy as an expansion hero without providing something extra when he would likely only be one model as a hero... Of course I could be missing something...

OMG!

A $10 box with a cav ardus no base to go with DKs would be awesome!

Also make an eq. box of Kari on a Leonx to go in oathsworn!

I'm now hoping that's a centaur-like unit with a ranged attack and a champion upgrade slot for Maegan.

I've been pulling for a mounted archer unit as a light skirmishing cavalry ever since Darnati Warriors were announced. And those absolutely look like javelins or throwing spears.

If they do ranged cavalry i hope they either let you pick the face to fire from or expand the line of sight for the unit so you can play them like mongol cavalry

Mongol horse archers would be the obvious inspiration, exactly. What if instead of choosing a non-forward face, they simply had all shift movement, including some very long distance shifts? Or maybe they would have an ability or dial that lets them do a lot of reforming and/or reform at unusual timings.

What makes you think a crude human, even one who lived among Latari for a brief (to Latari) period, would be suffered by a noble Leonx mount? No, she rides a horse.

More seriously, I don't see this happening. The distribution and design costs wouldn't make it a practical product. If you're going to put in the design effort and make the models and ship them worldwide, you'll make a new hero with two sculpts.

And that's okay.

The quiver is full of snake head-tipped arrows. The thing coming up over his left shoulder is the spires from the command tent.

At first I thought you were joking, and then I realized you probably didn't know they were talking about the picture in the original post. The centaur-dude-thing (racist, I know) appears to have some kind of weapon slung over his back, which very well could be throwing spears of some kind.

So the Initiative one guys have received a kit, and there's a new Uthuk hero. You can see it on their Discord: https://discord.gg/DMGuFe

For the mongol idea they could also get a free shift before or after their movement. It’s not really for us to solve here, they pay people to do that, which is one of the reasons I don’t get on the fantasy card train too much. BUT I hope the theme and mechanics are there, that is what I want the big takeaway to be.

Also Kari grew up with the Latari right? So if Baron Z can ride a rock golem ox I think it’s ok to be creative with what Kari could get.

Between you me an the rest of the community I don’t see it happening either, but it’s fun to think about.

Oh is that what you all were talking about? ?

This community leaks really slow doesn't it? Slow leaks?

THAT HERO!!!!!

For the Uthuk Viper Archers, I would like to see something low damage with a new venom bane.

So they'd shoot blue-blue with nothing on the dial, but each surge ads a venom bane.

Venom bane: When a unit with a venom bane on it reveals its dial, the opponent may spend one venom bane to deal one wound.

This way they are very dangerous to high armor units, but not that scary against low armor high wound units. You could potentially get a lot of venom on a unit, but it can reasonably rally it off the next time it activates.

For the likely new Latari Cavalry unit, I would love to see a solid hybrid ranged/melee regular unit that can both move and shoot and do well in melee. The idea would be something that lines up from a distance and charges in from a long ways while throwing spears on the way in. Ranged distance should be dependent on distance traveled like a javelin thrower. Potential for a double attack with a ranged attack into a charge if they line it up and roll well. No shifts but a moderate (5?) initiative reform that can be matched with the march 2 to change directions when necessary.

Centaur Dudes: 2 Armor, 1 Wound

Ranged: Red - Blue Melee: Red - Red

Dial: Blue Marches distance 1, 2, and 3 at initiatives 3, 4, and 6 respectively on the primary dial matching a blue ranged attack symbol on the second dial. Green March 4 at init 7. Also has a white March 2, white charge +1 and turn modifiers. No shifts, but a green reform at a moderate initiative on the first dial so they can change direction pretty well. Initiative 4 red melee.

[Range Attack] This ranged attack has a range equal to the distance marched this round.

[Ranged Attack] [surge]+ This unit may perform a march with a distance equal to surge spent. If the unit collides with another unit during this march it may treat this collision as a charge.

May need some balancing/proper pricing, but would love to play with/against something like this...

If this is new Latari cav, I really hope they function as heavy cav. A 2 armor/2 hp would have to be expensive but really awesome. A 1 armor/2 hp with armor options on the dial would also be great.
