My custom campaign: Rise of a Rebellion

By EagleScoutof007, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

So I've been working on and writing up a narrative campaign inspired by HotAC from X-wing. I will be a GM playing as Imperials while my players will be a small band of Rebels(can choose a starting point as a group). I have a game planned for tonight to start. Hopefully the story will be fun to play out and write up as it progresses. Each player will choose a single small base ship (CR90, Hammerhead or Nebulon-b) with 5 points for non-unique upgrades and a choice squadrons up to the ships squadron value (Y-wings, A-wings, Z-95s, VCX-100s, YT-1300s, and YT-2400) or GR-75 instead. All ships will have cargo space to carry any pickups. Some squadrons will be able to as well such as the VCX-100s and YTs.

Keyword(s): Cargo X (amount of cargo space available for a ship/squadron)

VCX-100 and YTs have Cargo 1

CR90s, Hammerheads, and Nebulon-b have Cargo 2

GR-75s have Cargo 6

The Clone Wars has ended and the Republic has reform, becoming the first Galatic Empire. As the years have gone by, the Empire has ruled through fear, oppression and tyranny. They stripped resources from planets to fuel it's military, taking people into slavery and arrested people for disobedience. Over time people began to rise up against this evil forming rebel cells to fight the Empire. These cells did what they could by stealing ships, supplies and making new alliances to help fight. This is a story of a new small but growing cell had formed a few years before the battle of Yavin...

New name of campaign in title, dropped GR-75 as a starting ship. Squadrons or GR-75 to start with your ship.

Awesome. Please keep us updated on how this goes. Looking to start a similar campaign in the next few months.

Mission #1: Disarrayed

My players start of with their base (which after using a galaxy map, they choose Mon Cala) attack by Imperials. Everyone is scattered about trying to make a run for it, but there is a blockade to get past first... Once they get past it there will be a few options on where to go as Imperials are in persuit. Lose them and get to a jump point for hyperspace. Someone will be there there to help...

Ships-

Imperials:

VSD 2-Commandant Aresko, QBTs, GT, LS

2 light cruiers- DTTs

2 gozantis- Comms net and jamming feild

Squadrons- 5 Tie fighter, 2 Tie Interceptors

Rebels:

Player 1- CR90 A- RBD and A-wing squadron

Player 2- Nebulon-b Escort- QBTs and 2 A-wings

Setup was like the blockade run objective just no tokens involved. Imperials had a line with the VSD in the middle, Gozantis on the left and right then a light cruier on each flank. Imperials launched squadrons as they got closer. Players had deployed apart near the edges of the mat. Player 1 being on the left side of VSD and player 2 on the right with all three A-wing squadrons. They slowly approached as Imperials speed towards them few shots were fired, but both players took heavy damage losing an A-wing squadron as well. Player 1 managed to get around the left side and got away while player 2 had been taking damage from the VSD. The VSD started to close in the Sato jumped in and disabled the side arc weapons allowing player 2 to get away. Both player got through the blockade, but we're still being presude and had a choice to go through a nebula or asteroid field. They choose the asteroid field which the rocks and debris fields moved distance by random dice roll at the start of each round. Sato gave a free shield at the start of each round and stayed back taking fire from the VSD and a light cruier that manager to follow. Players found some crates floating in the debris fields before jumping to hyperspace with Sato and meeting Pheonix cell. Now after repairs to their ships, they are in desperate need of supplies...

Next mission will be a supply run with three locations to choose from:

#1- An old abandoned republic station

#2- Imperial Convoy

#3- Mining Guild Convoy

I haven't been able to get my players back yet, but have added some changes. So I may start the first mission again. I'll have more updates once I can get this going again.

So for anyone interested in any updates. I did some changes to my story which I can post later and changed the name to "The rise of a Rebellion" and will use the CC map for now. I think I'm ready for some testing, but my wife and one other group member seem to be the only ones interested. Anyone in or near Lacey/Olympia WA want to try it out?

@EagleScoutof007 . I really like the idea of your campaign. Part of the reason I started getting into this game was because I thought it would be cool to integrate some sort of narrative into it. I am new to the game and still learning, I have just played a few games with my wife when I can convince her to play. Coincidently I live in Lacey/Olympia area and have been looking for people to play with. Please let me know if you are interested in linking up sometime to play!

We have a group that meets at Gabi's Olympic Cards and Comics on Friday nights. Legion also plays that night which some of us play including me. PM when you want to meet up!

Oh hey I remember doing stuff like this in the beginning of the year.

Wish Ibwas in WA, but as it is I'll have to live vicariously through this thread!

It's been while since I posted, currently trying to get some player to try this out. RitR recently came and gave me new idea for my players and my NPCs. I already had the idea that each player is a Captain of their ship, now with the commander abilities they can pick a tier 1 as their Captain's ability and as a group pick someone as a commander. Inturn I can make a big bad boss for them to deal with. This gave me more ideas for an Imperial warlord free-for-all I had thought of at one point. With the holidays coming, I plan to get a batrep up next month. Now to get some players...

Finally have some interest from players in my local group. Working out a date to play a game.

Finally got a game in with 3 friends from my group. We started with Disarrayed, but on a 3x3. Set up was an armed rebel station and debris clouds on either side of it. I don't remember what everyone had for upgrades, but each player had a different ship to start. There was a Hammerhead, CR-90(players chose as a flagship), and Nebulon-b. Squadrons were a couple VCXs, A-wings and a 2400. Each player rolled a D6 to see how much fuel they have(to hyperspace jump from planet to planet). Goal was to evaluate their base and get past the Imperial blockade(Command cruiser, Light cruiser and Gozonti cruisers with ties, bombers and a shuttle) with a GR-75 which has some cargo. Players decided to brawl with Imperials wiping all ships and most squadrons. Some took damage. The Nebulon-b got down to one health when the Harrow jumped in front of it by random dice roll. ISB Agent Meiloorun tried to catch them, but the Harrow took a disabling ion shot from off the mat from Phoenix Home. The Nebulon-b survived and all rebels pasted the Imperials. The players chose to run through an astroid field. Harrow now recovered, is in persuit and called for backup... To be continued...

My friends and I had fun. We played for a few hours. Had to split "disarrayed" into 2 parts because it took longer than I planned for them to escape so that'll come later. This time I'll be more prepared to get more details for this story.

Next game is planned for Thursday night and will update my player's adventure afterwards.

Update: The rebels had made a run through the astroid field (every turn we rolled a d8 and moved each astroid) VSD Harrow and agent Meiloorun were in persuit targeting the GR-75s which ended up getting away. The Harrow had suffered to much damage from astroids and attacks from players it had to retreat in hyperspace. Players had won another skrimmish with the Empire. Sato left some fuel and Intel for the players. Next Dathomir awaits... What will our heros face next?

The latest on my group: Based on the Intel they were given(imperial convoy or an old station), they chose to jump on an Imperial Convoy at Concord Dawn. Hoping to get some more cargo and fuel they and some hired guns(squadrons) ambushed the convoy which had three Gozonti transports and a Command Arquitens. Squadrons were 4 ties and two Mando Gauntlets. Things did not go as planned though. The target Gozonti had the most cargo got away. Another escaped too. One was destroyed along with all the squadrons. Rebels managed to get some cargo and fuel at a price of losing two CR90s and almost lost an Nebulon-b with one health remaining. Now they limped back to Dathomir to regroup with a Hammerhead which stayed behind.

It's been awhile since my last update. My state went under shelter in place order. I decided to try continuing my group's campaign through our Facebook page. Idk how well we could do battles as of now, but I found ways they could at least continue their adventure and recover from their last encounter. So we last know our heros took a rough hit trying to raid a convoy. After regrouping they traveled to Felucia. Their fleet is critically low on fuel. They find the station from their intel. There's a debris cloud near it with a could of escape pods. Gaining 2 crew from them they learned that the debris was a ship that was attacked by pirates, but escaped baddly damaged. The ship's core went critical causing damage to ships docked at the station. The station appeared abandoned. The docked ships(a pelta and a hammerhead) had some damage, but could be fixed. The rebels dock to the station and made their way on board.

Small update. Using our fb group, the rebels have repaired the ships docked at the station and made the station as a temporary hideout as they recover. They found supplies which included much needed fuel in the 10 cargo bays and even 4 squadrons. They just got new intel from Sato about some possible Imperial defectors trying to escape Lothal. The decided to send their Command Pelta with a VCX to try and recover the defectors. Now to figure out how to set up this encounter on fb...

The Rebels recovered a shuttle with 1 crew worth of Imperial defectors and chose to keep the shuttle for future use. They escaped before an Imperial patrol could spot them. Let's see what I can come up with next for our heros! The adventure continues...
