European Championship

By Taiowaa, in X-Wing

Are there any known live streams from the Euros?

OK, so why is there no talk of the Euros on the forum? Everoyone is waiting for the 2.0 already? We had a full Imperial Finals for heaven's sake ;)

There was no streaming and most of the people who would have been commentating were playing or on their way home from playing.

The lack of streaming is probably the biggest issue, First Earth wasn't available, and FFG didn't provide any streaming service, and there's noone else around with as much expertise as Simon. He was sorely missed.

Yeah, we've finally come full circle. Palpaces and brobots winning major events...

It's an odd thing I've noticed about the forums. Lots of chat and grumps about a myriad of things yet tournaments are reduced to the final 2 squads and very little commentary on actual x-wing games.

I guess Europe doesn’t matter...

Yeah, while I think that's interesting ending, people just don't have the same level of interest for a dead meta walking. It also doesn't help that there was no streaming.

#TinyEuropeanMeta :P

Honestly I was there from 8am Friday to 5pm Sunday and I managed 15 games in that time, plus most of saturday (my swiss flight was Friday) I was looking around the Games Expo. Other people did the same or were playing in other events (Destiny, IA, Armada) on their free day.

So basically, Europe was too busy to post updates lol

Sucks about the streaming. It would seem FFG either don't have stuff they can easily ship over to other events, or don't want to pay to hire out stuff/people to do it. But Alex Davy was there being a boss and letting people just thumb through the Rebel expansion as much as they wanted. So life giveth, life taketh away.

Alex Davy is so slick he can spoil things without actually spoiling anything.

Oh wait, wrong thread.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up all right!

Can someone post the top 4 lists? It looks like Ben was using a Lambda so I assume he was playing Palp aces.

Yeah man, wrong thread.

Alex Davy is so slick he can evade autoblaster hits.

The top lists were a ton of Miranda, bombs and Palp Aces. I'm sure a list will pop up soon but from walking through the top 64 . . there was a LOT of Miranda / Low / Sheatipede .

HOWEVER, and this needs a mention. .

There was ONE Wedge / Poe / Fenn list that definitely made it past the top 64, managing to 100 - 0 a Miranda / Low / Fenn list in spectacular fashion.

They didn't have any regen on Poe or Wedge either...

The only other list that made me blink on day 2 was one with (I think) 3 X-wings, Ezra in the Sheathipede and a Z-95

My favourite was the barrel rolling K-Wing in the top 16. Well done Manny!

Top 4 was Palp Aces (Yorr,QD, Inquisitor), Nym Miranda, Ghost Fenn and Chiraneau/Quickdraw

bring on 2.0 and the new meta.

Here's the top swiss standings for day 1A:

Couldn't find a photo of the full filled bracket in the cut, will see if I can track one down.

Congratulations again to Ben Lee. He's played consistently at the top for a long time and come close to big wins several times, so this is well deserved.

There was also a list with Nym, Alliance Bomber and a Hawk in Top 32.

But mostly lots of Miranda and QD.

It seemed like there were relatively few Ghost/Fenns and quite a lot of Nymranda and palp aces.

Final was Palpaces (expertise QD) vs RAClo QD

Top 4 had Ghost Fenn and Nymranda

Top 8 another Palpaces, 3 imperial aces (I think ryad, qd and OL), 4 ships rebels, Dash Poe

I don't know about top 16 other than there was at least one 100 points Miranda

I flew Sunny Bounder into the top 64!

Got KOed by Manny who went top 16 with something similarly unusual - a non-Kanan Rey and a non-bomb non-missile Miranda.

E: does anyone know when a listjuggler entry for Euros is likely to be up?

I suspect players will need to do it, if the GDPR stuff being discussed in the UK group is anything to go by.

Top 4 of the European Championship was:

Ben Lee: Yorr, Quickdraw, Inquisitor vs Jack Mooney: Ghost, Fenn

Ashok Hemmings: Nym, Miranda vs Wouter Ouwehand: Chirenau, Quickdraw

Ben (186th Squadron, UK) and Wouter (Netherlands) went on to play the final, which Ben won. Since there was no streaming, I was sitting by the table taking pictures and doing a turn-by-turn play commentary with photos on Facebook. You can find that commentary on the UK/IRL group (link) or the Mynock Squadron group (link).

Lists in the final:

Ben:
Yorr w/ Palpatine, Collision
Quickdraw w/ Expertise, FCS, LWF, Title
Inquisitor w/ PTL, Autothrusters, Title

Wouter:
Chirenau w/ VI, Palpatine, Kylo, Engine
Quickdraw w/ VI, Optics, Guidance Chips, Title, FCS, Harpoon
