KENOBI: A Star Wars Story....

... we've already had four, so what's the point?

A week ago I'd have said "$$$$$", but I'm not so sure after hearing about Solo's sub-par opening weekend.

Because wanting to know what iconic Star Wars characters did in long stretches of undocumented time is a pretty common desire among fans? One could almost say an unhealthy, and rabid desire for a lot of them. So bad that if the void is left unfilled, they will fill it with metric tons of fan theories and fan fiction, because otherwise their brains apparently will explode from the lack of content.

Personally I think it could be an interesting film. I could see it going really weird and trippy, given he's been a desert hermit for 20 years. Lots of bizarre Force vision trips, slow contemplative sequences of self-reflection, etc.

i'm sitting here watching ep 1 (followed by 2 & 3) coz the weather by me is naff and I can't sit in the garden... my wife mentioned the possible Kenobi movie and I just replied quick as a flash we've already had four! ?

I've seen Solo... excellent trailers. Really liked the one with the Western Style showdown.... only for nothing to happen in the full scene..just a helmet removal to reveal another Mary Sue IMO.

TBH why? Oh, why didn't DisLeen just sit down and sift through all the rpg source books (like Zahn had to do for Thrawn), comics, etc and make a decision based on fan opinions what to base a new trilogy on?

It makes me laugh though, whatever we start chatting about on gaming night we all end up ranting about the current SW films,,, except R1...

Which fan opinions get to count?

I think Boaty McBoatface would disagree with your poll. ?

If all they're going to do is retell stories made up by other people in comics and published fan fiction, why bother making the film at all?

Not to mention it would likely require introducing an entire supporting cast of characters that would further bloat the canon roster, without any real need to.

And also, why? Because they wanted to tell a different story, just like all those other people who published stuff before. They just pull junk out of their buts, and nobody really cared, that's not the same thing as it being "official canon."

Awesome! Then, when my choices aren’t used, and/or aren’t executed the way I envisioned, I can rant and rave like a petulant child.

Wait a moment...that’s exactly what’s been happening for many years.

Really? You're pulling out the Mary Sue card on a support character? One who isn't great at everything, isn't loved by everyone around her, and plenty of other things that are just not mentioned about her character at all? I think your definition of Mary Sue is probably "A female character that I don't like being in my Star Wars" if that character is your idea of a Mary Sue.

Seeing how he actually came on here to ruffle feathers and troll for the sake of it this shouldn’t surprise you in the least.

I mean on a forum where droids fighting for droid liberation are called SJW’s unironically nothing surprises me anymore.

It doesn't surprise me, but I will call it out with sarcasm and dry commentary, as is my custom.

Keep fighting the good fight!

another Mary Sue IMO

- Failed in her first attempt to get a big shipment of raritanium.

- Only got Han & the gang over a barrel later because she brought more dudes.

- Took out Vision's people in a surprise ambush.

What was so Mary Sue about her?

To some, a character that displays a degree of competence but has teh bewbs is a Mary Sue.

Without teh bewbs, Enfys Nest would have just been an antagonist.

I think that if it's a Kenobi movie then the symmetry with FFG's core books will be realized which is kind of neat even if coincidental. :)

I could go for that. Or, at the very least, put him in a “showrunner” position for the franchise.

Don't you dare to make fun of my feelings with your facts. A little girl not losing to my bois is an insult and disgrace to my fandom and manhood. ?
I am not helping right? I am just so sick of those nerf herders.

Though to be honest, I really liked Rian Johnson's take on the franchise too. Filoni is the guy who follows the legacy of star wars rather well, but Rian Johnson seems to be a rather fanboy of GLs film making. And Solo while a little bland and playing it safe in the script was very Star Wars and very entertaining as well.

Ultimately I just prefer new animated content to two new star wars movies a year. You don't run into the same budget constrains as you do with the movies. Animation is imho a medium which allows for more creative freedom.

If it helps, I can post quotes from some actual Mary Sues for comparison.

I’m quite fine with Rian Johnson, as well. Film and TV each have their strengths, so I’m fine with series (animated and the upcoming live action) and a movie each year. I think the “trilogy”-“story”-“trilogy”-“story” pattern works pretty well to balance out the big screen entries.

If Filoni (or anyone else) were a “showrunner,” I’d see it more as someone to help set the direction of the overall franchise. The downside being likely decreased direct involvement in production.

Well, comics’ Brian Michael Bendis does have a pretty large body of work, with entire series focused on Mary Sues. ?

Hi my name is Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way and I have long ebony black hair (that’s how I got my name) with purple streaks and red tips that reaches my mid-back and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Amy Lee (AN: if u don’t know who she is get da h*ll out of here!). [[I’m not related to Gerard Way but I wish I was because he’s a major ****ing hottie. I’m a vampire but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also a witch, and I go to a magic school called Hogwarts in England where I’m in the seventh year (I’m seventeen). I’m a goth (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow. I was walking outside Hogwarts. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of preps stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

“Hey Ebony!” shouted a voice. I looked up. It was…. Draco Malfoy!

“What’s up Draco?” I asked.

“Nothing.” he said shyly.

But then, I heard my friends call me and I had to go away.

Was that an excerpt from My Immortal ? Ugh... I feel dirty just knowing that exists.
