Alt models?

By wisetiger7, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Do people use alternative models for this game? I pretty much bought two of everything available for Latari Elves, but just can't get into the aesthetic of this game. Love the fluff. and I think the rules are some of the best in tabletop. I was thinking about using my old WHFB high elf models as proxies. Probably can't use them in official tourneys. But I was wondering if other people use alternative models. I also noticed that there are third party companies making trays for RWMG that fit models with square bases so you could use WHFB models.

Here are my wraiths. I've grown quite fond of them and plan to continue to use them even after the official ones come out.

For casual play, have fun. For tournament, I wouldn’t bring alternative models without the originals available in case your opponent objects

If it’s a FFG sanctioned tournament, then you have to have the official models. For most other tournaments, expect to need them. For casual play, it’s between you and your opponent.

I'm firmly in favour of allowing alternate models, and with its limited model pool Runewars is a great game for it. Don't need to worry about too much detail when factions only have a single type of melee infantry, cavalry, etc. Down the road it will be more of a consideration - I'm not bothered if your Spearmen are lizardmen, but it would be nice if they had spears. The pain is the dials and trays! Back when they game first came out and we could only find one core set, my group experimented with cardboard proxies, and it was a bit of a hassle.

Unfortunately there is no tournament scene in my area (..yet... I'm working on it). In the mean time, there is quite a lot of proxying that goes on in our group. We often use alt models to represent units that haven't been released yet. What you and your friends decide to do is up to you.

We have also started developing a 3 man ffa game rule set. So far we just have a king of the hill set up that was quite fun to play. The game really is quite flexible.
