So when will we get "Mud"troopers?

By Marinealver, in Star Wars: Legion

Okay don't like the movie. Didn't think it was right to put Han in the Imperial Army when he actualyl made it through the adacemy but was discharged but I know that is now not a story. But what do you think about guys that are less than stormtroopers fighting for the empire.

I mean storm troopers are bad enough but now take a bunch that can't hold any objectives and really are there just to die for the Emperor.

I think they can make for an interesting unit, let's say a cheap unit with a base of 7 troopers instead (more numerous) but without heavy weapon option and the worst attack posible (more precarious), which in the end will only translate in some more wounds useful to hold an objective or to attract some enemy fire

1) Why does it matter to you that Han didn't graduate from the academy?

Like, does that change your understanding of him at all?

2) What do I think of non-Storm-trooper units? I've always been for it and it's been a thing since at least Empire Strikes Back.

Han did attend flight school. I can't remember if he graduated or not, but he was demoted to footslogger for one reason or another. He mentions it in the movie.

I like the Imperial Army troopers.

If I was to design them,

Base of 7 troopers, one heavy weapon and two personnel upgrades. Gear upgrade.

White attack dice melee and ranged(range 1-3). White defense. No special rules. Courage of 1. Speed of 2.

Cost of 55 pts for base unit. Additional Trooper: 7 pts each. DLT-19 trooper: 24 pts.

I’ll definately buy some mud troopers when they come out. A cheap frontline unit to soak suppression would be great. I also enjoyed the film.

Honestly, the armor looks like what Veers is wearing.

I've wanted them from the moment it was confirmed they're Imperial Army not another silly Stormtrooper subtype. While the Visual Guide for the film states the Empire was "phasing out" non-Stormtrooper forces, I highly doubt they ever managed to do it completely considering just how big the galaxy is, so I don't see any problem with them still being around during the GCW.

They'll probably not be out for a fair while though, if at all. And if FFG want to leave that money on the table, hopefully one of the third party people will put them together even if that means Shapeways prices.

Wenn still don't know what SWL14 and SWL15 are.

I think Chewy and Imperial Army Troopers wouldn't be too far fetched.

I'd be expecting Deathtroopers before Armytroopers

Going by X-Wings release schedule the only times UKS' are skipped is:

- Epic Content

- Movie tie-ins

Either there is something big (AT-AT); which isn't likely regarding the way FFG manages Epic in X-Wing.

Or something related to Solo. Very likely as we have Luke, Han and Leia already in the game and Boba Fett introducing the new Operative unit type paving the way for Chewy. Army Troopers would make perfect sense to be released at the same time.

Also it would help to differentiate the factions a bit more. Giving the Empire the option to spam cheap units and letting the Rebellion focus more ob powerfull hero models.

Very true! I was thinking a SOLO units might still be in development though just because in the past they've released ships for X wing that didn't mesh with their on screen performance because they were developed with incomplete information prior to the movies release. I figured they might have been waiting for the movie to drop before they finalised work on the mud troopers.

Personally I just think they are focused on their new game and releasing what most considered the core of Star Wars stuff first and foremost.

Time will tell.

Considering Army Troopers are an integral part of Legends Imperial Army since the 90s and FFGs affinity to Legends material I'd guess they already developed them based on their Legends description as it would bei very likely NuCanon portrays them the same.

I can see sort of a hammer anvil approach. Imperial Army can shoot slightly better but have the staying power of a wart frog in Jabbas palace. Imperial Stormtroopers they miss but once they get to an objective it is hard to get them off.

I think the Army will get the "Low profile" ability to show them hitting the dirt and keeping their heads down.
