Help building some competitive builds with my collection

By wibbes, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all I'm a new starter in March and loved the game mechanics, I've just been buying loads of stuff and I need some help to make a competitive list from what I have. Any help will be appreciated

I currently own:

1x core set

1x gozanti-class carrier

1 x imperial aces

1x imperial veterans

1x y wing

1x imperial slave 1

1x tie bomber

1x tie phantom

1x vt-45 decimator

2x tie punisher

1x special forces tie fighter

And 1x tie silencer

As you can see my preference is to be an imperial pilot . All of the above are full sets with all cards . I'm just looking for a competitive build that I can hopefully use to win some games

I'm currently running at around 30 games and 5 wins

Thanks

I had a quick play and this is what I came up with:

Wibbes for the win (100)
•Countess Ryad (36) - TIE Defender
Push The Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
•"Quickdraw" (37) - TIE/SF Fighter
Push The Limit (3), Fire Control System (2), Advanced Optics (2), Special Ops Training (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
•"Deathfire" (27) - TIE Bomber
Long-Range Scanners (0), Cluster Mines (4), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4)

I like flying defenders with the TIE/D title and tractor beam but I went with the cheaper title here (partly because I think Expertise as an EPT is key to making that work). This way you should be able to get target lock, focus and evade most turns and the Countess can do incredible things with green k-turns of any speed she likes. The Twin Ion Engine helps make her dial almost entirely green, a big plus if you're going to push the limit most turns.

Quickdraw has been a popular ship for a long time. An extra attack (when she loses a shield) is a big plus. Fire Control System and Advanced Optics both help with action economy, FCS is especially useful as it should help you with your second attack if you do lose a shield.

Deathfire seemed a good fit with the remaining points. He's an offensive threat your opponent can't ignore and while he may go down early he can hopefully get his proton torpedoes away or do some damage using his pilot ability to line up those cluster mines. Dropping mines is one of the areas where having a lower pilot skill actually helps as you know where your target is going to be and hopefully can line up the mines just right. Long range scanners will help with the torpedoes and Extra Munitions in case you do stay alive long enough to shoot a second round of ordnance.

It's not top tier but flown well it should be at least semi competitive! Good luck :)

Quickdraw gender correction!

Never crossed my mind to run a lower pilot skill for a bomber, and I like the defenders build of green k turns with push. Thanks for your help will have try get down to fly it soon

I saw 2 TIE Punishers and now can't look past them. So no winning list from me :D

Deathrain. LWF, Bomblet Generator, Trajectory Simulator, Unguided Rockets.

Cutlass Sq. LWF, Advanced Sensors, Extra Munitions, Unguided Rockets, Cluster Mines x2

Deathfire. LWF, Extra Munitions, Unguided Rockets, Cluster Mines.

Plan of attack is, um.... unsophisticated.

And a bit easy to see coming.

But, you know... Death and stuff.

Otherwise I'd start with Ryad + Backdraft and go from there.

You'd need to proxy a whole bunch of stuff there. In fact, pretty much all of it bar extra munitions and cluster mines. @wibbes - did you need the list to only use cards you have or is it open season on upgrades?

Using only upgrades and ships you currently own, I made this list.

•Quickdraw (34)
Spec Ops Training (0), Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Sensor Cluster (2)
•Colonel Vessery (41)
TIE/D (0), Outmaneuver (3), Ion Cannon (3)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (22)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE Shuttle (0), Systems Officer (2), Fleet Officer (3)
Total: 97 points
That gives you room to throw on your other TIE mk. II or a cheap missile on one of the ships. Ideally you'd want a Lightweight Frame on Quickdraw if you can proxy it or if you plan on picking up a striker or tie aggressor, but the missile isn't a bad option either. It's not a top meta list, but it could certainly win a casual tournament.
In a typical game, you'd want the bomber and Vessery near the front of the initial engagement. Line them up in an inverted "V" formation a bit off center with QD towards the outside edge, bomber leading the point, and Vess on the inside. QD and Vess do big moves forward first round and bomber goes short, then reverse that for round 2. Try to give QD the initial target lock from systems officer if you can get her in range, otherwise it's fine to give it to Vess. Use the bomber's action to give out double focus tokens as often as you can. Try to give one to Vess every round, then QD if possible or to the bomber himself if QD is out of range. Vess will want to Barrel roll out of any arcs he can, but more than likely other ships will move after you and your best bet is to take a focus action so he ends up with 2 tokens. He'll get free target locks for both attacks if he shoots at anything QD shot at that turn thanks to FCS, so you should have great mods for offense or defense if you need them. I'd recommend spending the focus token on the ion cannon shot if you only have 1 when it's his turn to shoot. That'll lock them into a white 1 straight and Vess can often k-turn behind them and ion them to death (outmaneuver gets its value here). QD wants to focus most turns. Barrel roll if it keeps you out of arc, but with sensor cluster that focus is a pseudo evade token and helps keep her shields around. She gets a bonus shot once per round when she loses shields, so saving those shields is how you get the most value out of her. As long as she stays on the same target, she'll have free target locks from FCS (spend them every shot!) and if you have an extra focus from the bomber, don't be afraid to use it to boost one of your attacks. That focus token on her is a huge deterrent so you don't want to spend it needlessly and it's often scarier just sitting there than when used to push 1 more damage through.
You want to trade the bomber early for a high value ship from your opponent. QD and Vess are action efficient enough once the opponent's list has been thinned a bit. Vess sucks late game without the free target locks, but a defender is still a strong ship in general. It should serve you well as long as he's in play. A smart opponent will try to take out QD first, or at least all of her shields. If it looks like you'll lose her, use your bomber to get a target lock on something that Vess can shoot at for free mods, and have QD run away. If they chase, she has her rear arc and you make her shots count as much as you can. Don't save focuses for defense at that point, just push all the damage you can. In a perfect world, she will either get extra damage on the ship chasing her, or make them spend tokens so Vess can ionize them and save her butt.

Colonel Vessery

I think they only had imperial veterans - no tie defender expansion so no Vessery.

Countess Ryad (34)
Push the Limit (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Advanced Optics (2)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Special Ops Training (0)

"Deathfire" (17)
Extra Munitions (2)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Long-Range Scanners (0)

Total: 100

You dont have guidance chips, so alpha strikes and high PS with ordnance is probably out. But you do have extra munitions and long range scanners. Ive always loved Deathfire for his points. Other cards that work together is PTL and Twin Ion Engines - this screams "Ryad". For the third ship, you want an ace. Quickdraw is the obvious competitive choice for imperials right now. Without LWF, I would just spend the points for a shield upgrade, to maybe get more out of her ability. VI+FCS+Optics is THE build right now apart from Expertise+Pattern analyzer combo (which you have neither of).

EDIT: Tips on flying.

Most people will (and should) go after Deathfire first, cause when he gets inside with bombs, it gets nasty. This opens the doors for you to be aggressive (but not stupid) with Ryad and Quickdraw. Keep your focus for defense on QD unless you roll something like 3 eyeballs. If you just roll a single eyeball, 50/50 it with the target lock unless that single hit is a crucial kill shot or driving a crit through or you are not in danger of being shot. The longer QDs shields last, the easier the game will be for you.

This is a better Quickdraw build than mine. PTL probably not needed given the action economy from FCS and Optics.

Im open to Proxy/ buying expantions, Loving the Amouth of differnet styles you guys are bringing. playing tomoro evening so lets hope :P

If you get another defender you can proxy one of my favorite lists (defender and striker expansion for cards to run it for real):

Colonel Vessery (35)
A Score to Settle (0)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Swarm Leader (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
Advanced Optics (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Total: 100

Quickdraw murders things, opponent has to choose vessery (score to settle can be crackshot or VI as well and drop Mk.ii) or quickdraw. Only choose to use deltas evade, then vesserys evade if they shoot at quickdraw, for two 4 dice attacks. Try to approach from different angles, so its obvious if they have a defender in arc or not, then you are free to use evades from defenders not in danger.

If your looking for a competitive list, but only for casual play, proxying cards using an online squad builder gives you access to every upgrade in the game, making it a lot easier to build a strong list. In that scenario I'd recommend:

Kylo Ren (47)
Push The Limit
Advanced Sensors
Advanced Optics
First Order Vanguard
Autothrusters

Quickdraw (35)
Lone Wolf
Advanced Optics
Lightweight Frame
Collision Detector
Title

Wampa (14)

Totalling 96 points, because initiative against other aces is key here.

Kylo is, essentially, the new TIE Phantom. He can be anywhere, at any time, with the firepower to blow through any defences and the durability to tank a few big hits. Be careful to keep him very much out of the way near the start of the game.

Quickdraw is the go-to imperial ace, mainly due to her action efficiency. With a Lone Wolf/Lightweight Frame/Advance Optics load out you have almost full control over how much damage you take on the first shot each round, giving QD's ability the maximum benefit. If they ignore LW Quickdraw, she becomes an utter endgame monster.

Wampa is a bit of filler. Use him for blocking and a couple of snipes on rebel-regen targets.

Your only big threat is high PS alpha strikers like Airen, Nym and Wedge. Other than that you should be able to handle most lists with a bit of skill and luck.

Quickdraw has been my go to for a while now, loving setting it up with lone wolf , advandaced optics and lighweight frame. Really works well re rolling dice, would any one recommend a lamda and Palpatine ?

Between defenders, SpecOps, and the fillers, you have some very strong builds available:

Ryad

X7

PTL

TIE Mk. II

Quickdraw

VI

FCS

Adv. Optics

LWF (proxy - from Striker or Aggressor)

Title

Cutlass Squadron Pilot

LWF (Proxy)

Bomblet Generator (proxy - from Scurgg)

Unguided Rockets (proxy, from Agressor)

Trajector Simulator (proxy, from Resistance Bomber)

Ryad is a wiley and brutal ace killer, QD is a savage MF who hits like a truck, while the Cutlass is a versatile tank with enough of everything to make anyone cringe - endless bombs everywhere and efficient attacks.
