*Spoliers* Maul between Clone Wars and Rebels?

By BlodVargarna, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So Maul at the end of CW becomes the leader of

Crimson Dawn, and is still so by the time of Solo. Then by the time Rebels starts, he’s on his own again. Kind of broken and weak. So my fan theory is the Boba Fett movie will be a sequel to Solo, which also tells the story of the fall of Maul and rise of the Hutt cartel.

The Hutt cartel was already a thing in Episode I. And Maul was out of power by the end of Clone Wars animated.

Hmmm. I thought he was still in power, I’ll have to rewatch

Season 5 Episode 16 of Clone Wars is where I think the final resolution of the Maul as crimelord story occurs.

There is some mystery about Maul's whereabouts and doings between then and Ezra finding him on Malachor but I'm fairly certain Maul hadn't been running a criminal empire.

Maul has further adventures after that - in Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir . Basically, Sidious was using him to get Mother Talzin killed. She is, but Maul escapes. He also loses his grip on Black Sun and the Pykes.

His association with the Mandalorians is brought up in the Ahsoka novel - Mandalore is occupied by the Republic, but Maul escapes, as Order 66 is going down.

My guess is that, since Maul could no longer make use of Mandalorians, he re-established his grip on the underworld - possibly creating Crimson Dawn as a Black Sun splinter faction.

So if Maul cameo's in "Solo" then is this new film set before the end of season 2 of Rebels or even considerably before since Maul had been on Malachor for quite some time? Or has "Solo" essentially just ret-conned Rebels?

Based on the Solo Visual Guide , it's set considerably before That Scene On Malachor.

The Kessel Run takes place in 10 BBY.

That Scene On Malachor takes in 3 BBY.

Didn't he have one of the broken inquisitor sabers though?

Yes, he did. He apparently ran afoul of an inquisitor prior to Solo.

From what Filoni has said about the final CW arc and Sons of Dathomir, Maul maintains control of Death Watch until Order 66. So, it makes sense for him to re-establish a criminal organization.

Not gonna lie, I was really hoping that it would be Xizor that Crimson Dawn answered to.

As an aside, I’m Voss’ office, there was a very ornate set of mandalorian armor set up on an armorer manaquin ;)

Apparently it is a near complete set of OLD REPUBLIC Mandalorian armor, so it would be amazing if there was a Old Republic era film or show in the works. Or if opens a door to one.

Might consider changing the title of the thread. It is a bit spoiler-ish to have Maul in the title of a thread marked as spoilers.
