Stealing a ship

By Mefyrx, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi, just wondering how hard would it be to steel another crews' ship....

Such a YT-2400...

We havent played for a month and probably will play in a month after ive moved....(so if annyone is wondering why i havent made new cards, its because im a little bit busy) ...

But i was wondering....we are lost on this planet with this ennemy npc crew...who landed their ship

What could be the outcome of killing that crew and taking their ship?!

I dont think there is a registry of each ship's owner?! Or is there...

I guess it requires slicing ....but is this daunting? A GM wouldnt like a crew to suddently improve their ship by simply constantly steel a better ship?!

What would be peoples input on this?

Ships use transponder codes for identification purposes, so making sure a stolen one can’t be tracked is a bit more involved than giving it a new paintjob.

The most obvious negative outcomes of stealing a ship are 1) the previous owners coming after you and 2) trouble with the law. Number 2 isn’t actually that bad given how the SW universe works, but bounty hunters being plentiful means you can find a Boba lookalike on your tail quite easily. If a party is going to make Grand Theft Starship a regular occurence, they better make sure they’re good at it.

I beleive this is covered in fly casual. The B.O.S.S. handles ship registration throughout the galaxy and every ship comes with a datapad that is difficult to slice. Plus, even if you slice it, it wouldn't match what's in the BOSS' records. So you have to find a way to update that assuming you wanted to stay legal. If you don't care about flying around in a stolen ship then it's no problem.

Some ways to do it:
Secondary Transponder attachment
Bribe someone to update the records (very difficult according to the lore)
Forge a bill of sale
Tinker with the drive signature to make it match another clean ship then register it under that name
Find a junked ship of the same type and swap out the engines
etc

According to Fly Casual, it's attached to the sublights.

Came here expecting to see a thread about how to coat a ship in steel...Leaving disappointed.

My group has stolen a few ships. Each time it has involved forging a sale transaction/forcing one at gunpoint and then registering the change with the BOSS. Easier to do if the owner is dead.
