First 400 point fleet build. Advice, please!

By Wyrmnax, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So, after a few small games I am trying my first 400 points build, and I am a bit lost still. Any advice that I can get on my list?

Raddus is for skimping on defensive upgrades on mc30 - He should give me good positioning for it for at least 1 attack run.

My fighter complement is there to handle enemy squadrons. Since I don't have the squadron command to activate them I am trying to rely on counter and rogue to do the job, but I still feel that I am going to be eaten alive by any decent squadron complement.

Ships are outfitted with what I have in hand plus a few cards that I can get lend to me for the games, but suggestions are very welcome.

Could you please copy and paste the list into the forums? Or at least give the fleet name on warlords, because it’s easier for others to see the fleet. I’m gonna copy it in now:

First Rebel Fleet
Author: Wyrmnax

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 396/400

Commander: Admiral Raddus

Assault Objective: Opening Salvo
Defense Objective: Planetary Ion Cannon
Navigation Objective: Minefields

[ flagship ] MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100 points)
- Admiral Raddus ( 26 points)
- Caitken and Shollan ( 6 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 142 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 51 total ship cost

MC30c Scout Frigate (69 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- H9 Turbolasers ( 8 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 84 total ship cost

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36 points)
- External Racks ( 3 points)
= 39 total ship cost

3 A-Wing Squadrons ( 33 points)
1 Shara Bey ( 17 points)
1 Rogue Squadron ( 14 points)
1 YT-2400 ( 16 points)
= 80 total squadron cost

Ok, so on the MC 75, you want to replace Caitken and Shollan with ordnance experts. Far better as you can keep good results and reroll only poor ones. Then, add another ordnance upgrade like assault proton torpedoes. Same on the MC30, assault proton torpedoes will do you more good. The single hammerhead is not great on its own, so you can either give it Garel’s honor, or get rid of it and replace it with another small ship of your choice.

Looking at your squad wing, you have squads with escort alongside squads with counter. Replace the yt1300 and rouge squadron with another non-escort squad so that enemies are forced to attack the a wings and get countered. If you are really sold on rouge, then just take a bunch of yt2400s, but I don’t recommend it. So here’s how you could improve your list:

Help (395/400)

- Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
- Skilled First Officer (1)

1x Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron (16)
1x A-Wing Squadron (11)
1x Shara Bey A-wing Squadron (17)

Hope this was of help to you.

@Mostly_Harmless_Species note that C&S allow you two reroll "any number of dice of one color;" they are technically better than Ordnance Experts. The reason not to include them is that black dice are the truly important ones here anyway, to trigger a crit upgrade. It's also worth noting Rogue Squadron doesn't have escort (but they'll likely still prioritize it as a target.)

@Wyrmnax The hammerhead would like Ordnance experts, but you can definitely get away with running it as is. MC30 scouts aren't great. They want to be close anyway, and the extra cost can rarely be justified. Switching to a torpedo frigate and turning C&S into Ordnance Experts lets you add Admonition and Lando to your MC30. They're worth their points, because you can often get away with dropping the 30 dead in front of an ISD for *one turn.* You can even put Raddus on the 30, and drop the 75 in (the Aspiration title would be recommended.) In order to free up needed points, I'd personally drop Rogue Squadron and the YT-2400 in order to add a GR-75 transport, 2 sets of APTs, and Aspiration.

That build would look like:

Name: Crouching MC30, Hidden MC75
Faction: Rebel
Commander: Admiral Raddus

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Hyperspace Assault
Navigation: Intel Sweep

MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• External Racks (3)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
• Aspiration (3)
= 122 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• External Racks (3)
= 39 Points

CR90 Corvette A (44)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 51 Points

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
• Admiral Raddus (26)
• Lando Carissian (4)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
• H9 Turbolasers (8)
• Admonition (8)
= 118 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Squadrons:
• Shara Bey (17)
• 3 x A-wing Squadron (33)
= 50 Points

Total Points: 400

Note that you pick the order Hyperspace Assault and Raddus trigger, meaning you can 1. Put the MC75 into hyperspace with Raddus, 2. Put Admonition into Hyperspace, 3. Drop Admonition at the beginning of a round and, 4. drop the 75 next to Admonition if you want to.

Hope this helps, welcome to the game!

Whoops, I thought it was all dice of one color. Should have looked at the card.
