Personnel upgrade ideas.

By Gorthaur25, in Star Wars: Legion

There have been a couple of threads on medics since they are mentioned somewhere in the rules (I don't remember where). So building off of those threads what other ideas do we have for personnel upgrades? Not so much who or what they will be specifically but what effects might they have.

Here are mine (what I can think of now):

Medic: reroll saves or add additional dice to an armor save.

Officer: increase a units courage by one.

Weapons specialist?: after aiming you may ready a weapon. Or something that helps with exhausted weapons.

Comm operator: this unit can be issued orders at any range.

For the record I think heavy weapons should always be unit specific. I am also not sure how I feel about more universal Personnel upgrades. I like that Legion keeps a lot of upgrades unit specific to keep bloat in check.

Droid operator: control a droid unit at range (like a scout droid).

Forward Observer: Gain the "Spotter"ability.

Droid: Gain the ability to interact with special mission elements.

Sapper: Defuse enemy mines/obstacles (emplace with a Heavy Weapons trooper).

Engineer has been mentioned, maybe repair to vehicle

Medic: While this mini is attached to your unit, you roll 1 additional defence die when defending against an attack.

Engineer: If a friendly vehicle at range 1 has a damaged token, exhaust this mini to remove that token.

Slicer: Remove all aim/dodge tokens from a vehicle unit at range 1-2.

combat engineer sapper......

This are really good ideas. Except the weapon specialist that seems contradictory to the design of ion weapons. I would like to see the personnel slot put to this use but then I wonder a bit about the design of this system, will it be universal units or tied to specific troop units, for rebels might not feel weird since they are a rag-tag group but on the imperial side will feel weird to see a medic on different armour along a snowtrooper unit, but that might be just my OCD.

I think we might see a generic medical droid.

Only problem I see with that is that the current medical droid from the OT does not fit either in the battlefield.
Maybe a flyer, something more in line with the imperial probe droids...

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if only the Rebels get a medic, just to drive home the whole "Empire doesn't care about individuals" feel, and the officer is Empire only to as part of the"Rebellion is undisciplined" take some people have on the factions in the greater media.

Engineers don't have to interact with vehicles. They could also do such things as give a chance at removing demolition charge counters (from the Spec Ops special weapons) or "If you have Cover, improve your Cover value by 1" as part of a "entrenchment" feel.

Imperial Medics tending to wounded:

@Indy_com Where is that image from, is it a canon source?

I'm not trying to say that it doesn't make sense for the Empire to have medics, just that FFG may decide not to release medics for them as part of the preconception that the Empire doesn't care.

Ah, thanks! I had seen it a couple places before without a source so wasn't sure if it was just well done fan art.

501st Legion : Vader's Fist

Stormtrooper Only, Unique

25 points

This unit gains +2 Courage, and Pierce 1 against units with deflect

This unit also gains 1 additional personnel upgrade slot

Unique upgrade status is removed if Darth Vader is a commander

Using personnel upgrades to also work for specialized training options would also work since there isn't really a title type upgrade...

With the sniper coming via the Rebel expansion ... need the spotter/forward observer

it reads like game mechanics are accounting for a recon type aspect with those units, which is pretty cool

The more of these types of adds to both Imps\Rebs the less frequency of 2 AT-ST or 3 AT-RT armies. I think play style and army creation greatly enhanced and varied at that point
