Sorry about the res had to size it down to have it show.
How on earth can FFG have droids with the exact same ability but have the abilities worded differently? Both the R2 droids and both the R5 have the same ability just a different charge count but they are worded differently.
This scares the crap out of me, I thought FFG was implementing a convention for how abilities are to be written. This shows that they are just putting whatever the **** they want down on the cards without following any standards or conventions. On top of that, they did not even bother to check how a similar (in this case identical) ability is written.
This opens up a very massive concern for me about both their design system and their internal review process... No one once sat down with all the cards and noticed these wording errors?
My only hope is this was an internal pre-production run and some of the cards design had not yet been fully updated to a wording change and so they are different but in the actual production run they will be the same. That's my only hope otherwise I am deeply shaken in my faith that 2.0 was going to have cleaner and more clear abilities.
Edit:
@ficklegreendice
Found some evidence that they are just pre-production cards with updates that are not accurate. You can see what he posted below (R5-D8 with the R5 text)
Wave 2 Core Set droid wordings. (spoiled cards)
I have the same concern. Definitely thought that was weird. We also see things like, "Caption Rex" on the condition card which makes me a little worried - how hard is it to proofread?

Actually pretty difficult. Remember, it’s hundreds of cards that need checked. You try reading card after card for a couple hours and see how focused you are.
Not that that invalidates concerns over the templating, but one typo isn’t that big a deal.

I am less concerned about a typo that **** can happen. But not actually having any templating?
r2-d2, which is rebel only, recover shield before getting weapons disabled
r2, which isn't rebel only, gets the weapons disabled first
Q.E.D, Rebel bias
double post, but important

different than the spoiled r5-d8
earlier prototypes?
Thank you
@ficklegreendice
That makes me feel much better, most likely just an earlier prototype.
Nice work digging all that up and correlating.
np, I just had a nagging thought about having seen r5-d8 before (then remembering it wasn't in the unboxing)
if anything though, all this makes me want to see all the actual contents sooner
I think the intent also is there's the generic units, non faction specific, then there's the unique named versions that are basically the same with either more charges or some other benefit (and surely at a higher price)
I see the order is reversed but the terminology used is identical, I don’t really see the problem? It only seems like an issue when they start using different words to mean the same thing, making triggers and timing hard to understand.

Aren’t these new spoilers ostensibly from someone getting their hands on a box and opening it?

Yes and no,
These could be pre full-scale production samples. We really don't know where they are from.
The net effect is completely identical, so I really don’t care. If they have different wording that has an impact, AND I actually see the cards then I’ll be more worried.
and if it isn’t identical it means that R2-D2 is better. Sounds like design?
Edited by TasteTheRainbowOne of the droids in the case at Worlds also had different wording even from these 'new' shots, that appear to have been taken a while ago but only posted recently. One of R2-D2 / R2 Astromech mentioned a 'Disarm' token, and the other said "weapon disabled' token. In at least 1 recorded game Alex and Frank were very explicit that (some of) the components being used were mock-ups / prototypes of the final product, not that actual production pieces.
I expect that shots like these are of similar components.
FFG don't care about establishing any sort of convention, the sooner things get messed up again, the sooner they can cash in with X-Wing 3.0
In fact it's in their best interests to fail at sorting things out. If it's perfect, no one will want to 'upgrade' to 3.0.

You are, officially, nuts.

With Kubli Con this weekend and the UK Games Expo the next, FFG should be starting their push to retailers. There should be plenty of samples being bandied about.
FFG still lists the game as "In Development", so what's shown around are all probably still pre-production samples and samples being used for localization. Let's hope there's still some editing going on.
Why are people freaking out about this? Go and look at the original R2-D2 reveal on the second edition announcement article.
It's the same wording as R2 astromech here.
We've known about both R2 astro and R2-D2 since announcement, and no one was worried because the wording was the same on those reveals.
I think it would be wise for everyone to take anything that's not an official reveal with a large grain of salt.
Maybe its just me, but three of those cards in that image (R2D2, R3, and R5D8) look doctored. The black area is "too black". The other two cards have natural sheen/reflection that show the card texture, but those other three don't seem to. Could just be my display though.

We have 3 months+ to do nothing but get hyped and freak out that's why.
