Legion is in its WWI Phase

By DwightE1, in Star Wars: Legion

Gunlines ahoy, unless you deploy in disarray.

Battle lines? Shore up to cover and pray that Luke/Vader/ATST/ATRT breaks the line or your Bikes/Speeder manage to choke out a flank.

Long March? Get stuck.

Major offensive? Draw that arc line, the left flank must hold!

I'm looking forward to the addition of artillery, so that we can truly make trenches great again.

All kidding aside, I'm looking forward to some true linebreakers. Tanks will be a good change, as will melee. Can force a more guerilla style battle.

I wouldn't count on tanks to break us out of the WWI era...

Battle Of Cambrai

I think the only way that Legion would end up being like WWI is if you aren't using enough terrain. Could be an interesting game if you are playing Capture the Supplies on a WWI-esque table. Mad dash into No Mans Land on turn 5-6.

ATST doesn’t need to break lines. ATST sits, and fires everywhere

Issue is probably that you don't have enough terrain, especially LoS blockers like tall buildings. These really make the game a lot more dynamic since it allows players to move forwards.

What would be neat though is to have smoke grenades that deploy some light cover (hello Infinity).

This sounds like a "you need more terrain" thread

Now if only we could get a "I don't like the T-47" thread we'd be getting somewhere...

The Barricades supplied with the game generally create this scenario. Other terrain generally works better and scenarios are really important as well.

So by my (terrible) estimate, 2 core sets of barricades + another 24 packs of barricades is 1/4 of the play area.

Those weren't tanks, they were land ships.:P

Important are line of sight blockers. Best case they are high enough to block the LoS from and to AT-STs.

I'd love to see a Legion game on a Western-Front style mat, with lines of trenches, along with forward LPs, and artillery support from the rear.

I would absolutely LOVE some smoke or gas grenades!

This thread is completely off-topic but that makes it better

Alright fine, back to the topic. Literally everything on the release schedule has Blast or Sharpshooter, so I hope you have LoS blocking terrain because those trenches won't help much.

Although attributed to Lincoln, the original quote comes from Plato.

Wait, so you're saying most of the infantry is machine gun DLT-19 fodder and maneuver warfare is dead? What about the cavalry speeder bikes? Or Rebel troopers on horses AT-RTs? Won't the introduction of the tank AT-ST break the stalemate? I mean, it's not like poison gas attacks orbital bombardments contribute.
