Special Tokens

By Cornwolf, in Star Wars: Legion

Hi All,

Just a quick question for you all I am trying to get my head around having not played this time of game before and never at an actual event.

So my local gaming store are holding an event soon where you can win a special commander token for when you activate them etc. My question is should I win one for my respective faction does this give me an advantage when playing the game because my commander will has a significantly different token to the standard cardboard ones? Are these then classed as been illegal at tournament play?

Is it the order token, or is it a designator of who your promoted commander is after you lose yours?

I am not 100% sure I believe it's the order token.

It's definitely an order token.

I believe it's ffg's way to encourage OP kit attendance to get players to collect the set. Just like the acryllic tokens in Armada kits.

I only comment as it would be an advantage if it were so.

butvivr also heard it’s just the promotion token.

No one has posted a picture I’ve seen to know.

If it’s from the Operation kit, it’s not an order token. It’s for Commander promotion.

Urgh.

Unless you get 3-4 corps tokens at once...

brcayse yes, it would be an advantage, and should be an illegal one, unless every. Single. Token. Is fundamentally identical, or they provide some other way other than “draw from a bag” to decide it...

The entire point of alt arts and acrylics in ALL.ofvtheur games is that they are nice to haves, rather than incentive bonuses.

Incentuve and exclysuve bonuses and things that are better, is what kills things like ST:AW and D&D:AW organized play...

Sadly the first one is a Commander token.

In saying that its pretty cool since its a metal coin. I imagine it would Feel good to shake a bag and draw from it with all that metal clanging about once you get the set!

But if you never get the set....

or never add one for operatives or other new designators they come up with...

... how long will it take to even have one of each givenrhrte is what, 5/6 types already? That’s over a year...

... knowing FFG one rank will be GenCon/Adepticon Exclusive...

I was just shown them in the box :)

And?

It is definitely the promotion token, not an order token. You can prove it thusly:

Head over to the OP page and look at the contents of the Recruitment Kit:

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/3/12/recruit-your-legions/

It includes 13 of each Imperial and Rebel “commander tokens”.

Now go to the RRG and look at page 3. Look for the token labeled “commander token”. It’s the token used when promoting a unit to commander. The other tokens you guys are thinking of are called “order tokens”.

They looked pretty. Gold for Imperial and Silver for Rebels I believe.

And, are they large and circular with the commander symbol on them, or are they something else?

Correct large circular with the commander symbol on them.

This is going to cause so many problems as a TO.

Are you talking about the official Recruitment Kits from FFG, or something else? In the ones from FFG, those are not large circles. They’re smaller than the order tokens. See my post above. It is definitely not a replacement for order tokens.

TOs can rest easy ?. See my other post above.

It's not that big a deal. I don't have mine on me now but they are between the size of a US Nickel and Quarter. As has been said, they are the Commander promotion tokens, not the Order tokens. There will only ever be one needed for a player as you can only ever promote 1 miniature to Commander. The Imperial one is made out of silver colored metal and the Rebel one is gold colored metal. One side has the respective faction symbol and the other side has the Commander Icon.

My problem is with people believing them to be Order tokens and attempting to use them as such.

Because I am already envisioning the arguments and dummyvdpits .

Fair enough, but they are a completely different size and material...so I wouldn't think it will be an issue.

I know when I gave them out at my LGS after our Recruitment Kit events people were wanting multiples. I didn't think anything about it at the time but checked the rules on promotion afterwards and saw that you only ever promote 1 mini when all of your other Commanders have been defeated.

If I'd known that I would have held on to some of them to hand out for any new players that join the community down the road.

Hmm... I just checked the tournament regulations. Order tokens (as well as objective and condition tokens) are classified as Essential Tokens*, and cannot be replaced by 3rd party tokens, although priority supplies providing new objective tokens muddies the water a bit with regard to whether FFG will ever release promotional tokens.

*Presumably for the same reason 3rd party bomb, obstacle, and dials are not legal in x-wing.

Fairly certain the Objective Markers in the Priority Supplies expansion are on the same bases as the Trooper minis, which are the exact diameter of the Objective Tokens supplied in the Core Set. Part of the reason minis are not allowed to be placed on top of Objective tokens, they would cover up the token and could lead to some less-than-savory game shenanigans.

Yeah, I figured. I was just pointing out that because FFG has released premium first party objective tokens, they've left the door open for acryllic or metallic order tokens (although the aforementioned randomization problem makes that difficult).

So we have two people saying that they have seen it and its both definitely the promotion token and definitely the order token.

Please stop saying what it is until you can actually post a picture of what it is.

I mean... I cited my sources. Seems pretty definitive that it is the promotion token. I’ll cut an image together later if that’s what it takes.
