In the interest of bad decisions...

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

...help me with this silly fleet. Its one goal is to get a Defiance Ackbar slash on two medium/close range targets. The CR90B and Quantum Storm are there to set it up; the Hammerhead is for HA. EWS could go for RBDs, but I expect to eat 2 side arcs and 2 rear arcs, so I figured I’d obstruct half of those. Thoughts?

No Ackbar... no Ackbar Slash??

They’re buddies, they talk tactics.

I see Raddus disappointed. It should sound better when Ackbar described it.?

Is anything bothered by a 5 red dice salvo?

Does a long range gunner benefit from perfect Raddus deployment?

Why no slicer teams on flotillas that want to go close to the enemy?

Lol you want that in the glosary don't you?

Paging @DiabloAzul

I will be embarrassed if that takes a place before Space Dorito ?

Looking for a pair of close/medium range shots, and at least one should have Defiance and a CF for 9 dice... The next turn, if they’re at long, 7? Fitting Slicer Teams could actually be nice, if there’s a good way to do so.

If you are wanting to get the use from Defiance, then you need to leave the MC80 until late in the turn, that means if it has raddused in then it is either a sitting duck that things shoot then run away from, or you drop it where they are going to move to, in which case why the **** are you using Raddus rather than Ackbar.

also, why are you using Raddus rather than Ackbar?

The idea is to put it alongside and a little behind a large/medium base + another target. That way you’re out of their front arc, yet close enough to have their stern at medium after they’ve moved. If they don’t move, a Raddus setup ship gets a free shot and escape opportunity. I’m avoiding Ackbar because of positioning issues (also that would require a different fleet composition, and it’s often better to flank than risk getting destroyed on approach/blocked, whereas an ET CR90 can avoid ramming contests more easily and potentially function as a blocker.) Obviously this becomes even sillier vs small, fast ships, but forking means at least one free shot. The premise is we’re trying to do everything possible to get optimal positioning for a slash. Whether the overall idea is good or something you do to say you did it... that’s a different question. Treat it as a thought experiment. ?

I think people are saying why no ackbar because a Raddus H1 variant trades it's most effective and redeeming qualities for skipping right to the bad parts.

I get what you are thinking.

People are simply telling you it doesn't work. But you can try it and find out! It's probably gonna be a hoot to play (which is the important part) but when you can't kill anything you will understand what people were talking about when they were telling you to Ackbar.

Exactly. It’s not a case of a case of “this could be smart/potentially competitive.” I have a (kinda dumb) goal in mind, and am building to accomplish that goal. If I wanted to fly an Ackbar gunline, I wouldn’t be here, because I’d know how to build one.

I’m all in favour of dumb ideas, some of them turn out to be amazing.

Defiance won’t work with this build, it pushes you to hold off on activating which means you will be getting a kicking while you wait, then you are in close and you don’t really want to delay activating the either.

I’d drop the Defiance title, I’d also switch to the MC80C as blue dice are always better than red dice provided they are in range. The other thing you can do then is take hardened bulkheads and engine techs and become a massive bully, shooting then double ramming anything you want. You only get 1 defensive retrofit however EWS is rubbish on MC80H’s as whatever arc you cover someone can target another arc (I’ve tried they don’t work).

Finally if you can get an MC30 in somehow then you could do the exodus fleet thing which will help you tank more damage
