You can get wanted posters at the city gate, but do you need to end you movement on the city gate? Or do you just stop at the city gate? Or can you encounter it while passing it by?

Do you also need to return bounties to the city gate or can you get the gold as soon as you complete the task anywhere?

Right, and that's vague. Wanted posters are available on the space, which doesn't say explicitly whether you have to land on the space. For instance, you don't have to land exactly on a shop to use a shop, you can simply end your movement there if you wish. And, you can claim the bounty any time during his their turn, but it doesn't say where you have to be to do it. Does it mean if you start on the city gate? End on the city gate? Pass by the city gate? Or anywhere off the city gate?

It says you have to visit the space, which is only possible
if you are on the space and you are encountering said
space.

There's a reason I separated those two paragraphs
below the first. That's because they describe the two
different ways to earn your bounties.

1) If you are on the City Gate and have the needed
trophy/-ies to earn any bounties, that's what you
will do as your encounter.

(In case it's not clear: That means you are not
paying for any Wanted Posters nor do you gain
them at any point.)

2) If you have bought a Wanted Poster and you
have the needed trophy/-ies, you can claim your
bounty anywhere on the board at any time
during your turn.

Right you need to "visit" it, but you can also "visit" the shops, and again, you stop right at them if you're merely passing them by, not if you exactly land on them. But, I guess since there's nothing that explicitly says you stop at the city gate, you probably encounter them.

The City Gate is not a shop space, which is why the rules for shop spaces do not apply here.
