Yet another FO and Resistance Faction speculation thread

By DXCrazytrain, in X-Wing

From everything I’ve gathered, it seems like First Order will be the faction for me, not least because my favorite list is QD and 2 PS4 Silencers. The only problem is, I have to wait until Wave 2 to bow to the First Order in 2 nd edition. I doubt we’ll get any articles or previews till after Wave 1 drops and to be honest, I’m entirely too impatient to wait that long. Until then I’ll have to settle for rumors and rampant speculation from you fine folks.

So what are your thoughts on Wave 2? What will be in it, just the conversion kits, maybe a ship or two? Do you think there will be a Force Awakens style core set? How do you think current FO and Resistance ships will change? What ships do you think will be added from episodes 7 and 8 (Resistance A-Wing seems obvious)? What do you think we’ll get from the Resistance cartoon?

Any other random thoughts or questions I didn’t get to? This is the place for all of them. Let the rampant speculation run wild.

I literally can't wait for the new Resistance balancing and conversion stuff either (your friendly Resistance arch-enemy sends greetings from cyberspace).

I decided about a month ago to practice insane self-control and only buy Resistance stuff from here on out.

Thankfully, I recently acquired my 4th t70, and a couple days ago my first bomber.

Looking forward to:

Potential Imperial Remnant filler TIEs for the FO (maybe a Phantom conversion, Defender conversion, Interceptor and Punisher.... These bubble packs would then most likely have cards for both factions, rather than alternate models).

Future TIEs from the upcoming show should be awesome.

Resistance:

Looking forward to that ugly Resistance transport from 7. People hate on it, but I think it's very post-trilogy-esque.

T85 from the new show would be awesome.

A-wing, of course.

CONVERSIONS, PLEASE!

E-wing and K-wing usable for both factions, with slightly different stats and pilots.

Pipe dreams, mostly, but maybe not completely impossible?

Vice Admiral Holdo crew!

She starts with charge tokens that are removed during Activation each round. Once she is out of charges, during the End phase you may measure the bullseye arc to the edge of the play area. You may choose to remove the ship she is on from the game. If you do, deal damage equal to twice the removed ships remaining hull value to all ships in the bullseye arc.

I have to wonder if they will have it where for the most part the Resistance stuff is given a blue paint job while the Rebel stuff is given a red paint job so that they stand out from each other at a glance.

I think the E and K are bit redundant with the T-70 and Bomber, respectively

there are differences, but they're each an advanced fighter and a dedicated bomber

in fact, I'll be very sad if Ks can't launch bombs like the Resistance bomber could (since rebels can't take them any longer :( )

also Disney probably doesn't want their children playing with the filthy EU kids from across the street

Another question has occurred to me. What will the forums and the community itself look like with more factions? I played Guild Ball for a hot minute and each team had it's own sub-section on their forums. Will we see the same thing happen here, especially if we get the rumored Republic and Separatist factions? Will faction loyalty develop? The devs have made it clear that we won't have to buy ships from other factions. If they do add more factions, it will become less feasible for players to buy every ship for every faction. I imagine most players will quickly settle into 2 or 3 preferred factions and forego the rest. What do you think most people will base their choice on, story line fluff or gameplay mechanics?

In my opinion we went from how much longer can X-Wing survive, to how big can it get with the addition of new factions. I really would love to see your speculation run rampant, not only about FO and Resistance factions but future ones as well, and the effect it will have on both the game and us.

Not sure if we'd get more subforums, but I know I'm really game to buy some BTL-B Y-wings.

While I hate Holdo as a character, worse than the Rose/Finn plot if you ask me, I love this ability.

I like how they stated that the First Order is going to be more about a few elites ships than about a lot of generics. Personally, I always loved Imperials as a bunch of generics with a few heavy hitters, but my faction was always dominated by the heavy ace builds. What I like about the First Order is it shunts off those people to their own faction! It allows my Imperials to flourish as what I want them to be. :)

I've often wondered how many people prefer to get the new faction stuff over the old. I'm pretty happy they split these off.

As a former Plot Armor player, and then following that up with Kylo + 2x Rho, not too thrilled by the split.

But, I get it. Especially if Disney is about to unload an insane number of sequel trilogy ship choices for them to flesh out new factions with. These 3-4 choices aren’t all great IMO, but I also joined the game late so everyone had tons of choices right away.

I am guessing Resistance (the show, not the faction) will yield a bunch of options for the resistance faction. It might add 1-2 extra FO choices, but as they aren’t the stars of the show they won’t get so much. Case in point, the show Rebels added 4 expansions to the rebels, but only 1 to the empire (Ghost+Phantom pack, sheathipede, Rebel tie, Auzituck vs TAP)

The FO will be supplemented by converting imperial tech most likely.

Well at the beginning of my x-wing career I wanted to be faction loyal to Resistence. Then I bought HWK because of Kyle Katarn. And my friend gave me Slave I as I love the ship design. That's what turned me to Scum.

With 2.0 I still consider selling out my Scum and play with my wifes Rebels until my favorite faction is out. And then... Resistence all the way!!!

Yea, I think they are sort of trying to have it where the FO takes over as the elite swarm or Imp aces build for the most part while the Resistance will be taking up the 2-3 ship super aces that Rebels used to field. It makes me really interested to see what they might do with a Republic and CIS faction, it would make sense if the clones worked all together like the Rebels but also were geared towards setting up for a super ace Jedi ship while the CIS is all about a large but very fragile swarm (more than 6-7 ships), or does swarm ship with lots of Calculate passing around, or even has it where you swarm ships but they are less focused on flying together than trying to flank other ships and attack from all different angles.

Maybe they'll make a FO Gunboat using the Missile Boat model.

For me, I've been playing exclusively FO and Resistance for the last 1-2 years (started when the SF Tie Fighter was released), so, of course I'll continue to do so in version 2.0. I had a lot of fun playing with a 4 SF list.

That FFG finally decided to split the factions is one of the reason that I'll continue to play. I always hated non thematic lists, and seeing Kylo Ren fighting alongside Vader was always a turn off for me, or Kanan with Rey.

Now what I do expect is that before releasing new ships, they'll start by re-releasing older ships. I hope that we'll get a Sequel Era new Core Set (so that players playing Resistance or FO exclusively don't have to buy the Rebel and Empire Core Set). Same damage deck, nothing new for players that bought the first one, just a second possible starting point. And I think that like in wave 1, they'll release the T-70 and FO Tie Fighter expensions. We also know that they want to make the Tie Silencer smaller, so maybe it will come in the first FO wave too.

What I can't wait to see is how they'll make both those factions distinct from the Empire and Rebels. I like that they seems to go elite force with the FO!

Can't wait to show the dark side to my opponents.... hopefully it won't be long after the first wave...

Anakin meta. R2 + Delta 7 ....OP!!

'Buzz droids in your face *****!'

:laughs off

Honestly really like all this flavour. It could be huge. I expect gameplay difficulties galore in this new age but the fluff element getting stronger is really quite exciting and can't really go far wrong. You just imagine over the flaws :)
