Solo Discussion Thread [SPOILERS!]

By Forresto, in Star Wars: Armada

While I agree with everything else you said, I must take issue with Mr. Bettany's portrayal of Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander. He does a rather poor job of playing a short, dark, ugly, peevish curmudgeon of Irish/Catalan descent. Now, it really wasn't his fault - he was miscast, and the script criminally underutilized the role....but there you go. ;)

Point taken, I agree. I hope you'll forgive me as I've somewhat scrubbed that film from my memory. The Knight's Tale role I also wholeheartedly agree with @Gallanteer on.

Solo meets a princess and a young stupid boy about to be killed with another hundreds of people by a huge imperial weapon and say: "git gud". He will eventually came back, save the day and join the rebellion

Solo meets a terrorist who want to keep some fuel from mafia to **** the empire and say: "we are their only hope". He eventually let them care themselves "you have the fuel, git gud".

hang on for the guitar solo at 2:07

Incidentally, its a shame @BiggsIRLnever posted my Vassal World Cup intro test. Paul Bettany would have been proud.

Also, did the other Solo thread finally get purged like the cancer that it was?

I'm not sure. Since my time has been stretched thin - I haven't played Armada or any other table-top game in months - I have been rather absent on the boards. But flame-war/train-crash threads are always fun to watch and add fuel to. I'm sorry I missed it.

It is "archived" in Off-Topic.

Ah yes. "Archived."

Jolly good.

More of audio dramas really. PLEASE Disney, release a Lando Audio book narrated by Donald Glover. It would be hilarious and amazing.

Just read Lando Trilogy by L. Neil Smith. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lando_Calrissian_Adventures

Best Star Wars novels IMHO.

I think Lando was maybe even still understated in this movie. Playing Lando, you could even quote the cat from Red Dwarf and it wouldn't seem odd.

I have decided that I need to see this movie for myself. I have heard some rumors that I need to see if they hold water.

Victory!

I thought it was pretty nice. The story was thin, but lots of good characters.

But really, why do we have to keep seeing Maul?

He died in Phantom Menace.

Thanks. Seriously thought I was the only one who felt this way.

You assumed he died.

Wrongly.

...

i mean, I’m actually interested in knowing. I followed the listed canon through the Clone Wars and due to that production ending, his fate was actually unknown until his appearance in Rebels. This would be an indication of what he was doing in that gap.

I think he was rather interesting in Rebels. Of course, it was hard to be less interesting than he was in TPM. I just wasn't feeling much enthusiasm for him as a KISS-concert reject. I'm so-so about his appearance in TCW.

Corrected the quote

I watched it and enjoyed it.

Droids wanting freedom, escaping/rebelling is something that happened a few times in legends expanded universe so people that think it does not fit in star wars at all can suck it.

I wonder if we will see a live action version of this:

the set-up is obviously there, or spread maul over the spin-offs. partially in a boba fett film with a flashback about his survival then endng in a kenobi film? I dont remember how many spin-off ovies they have planed now.

Using a lot of Hate dark side users can survive being cut in two.

that's why he appeared in clone wars and died n Rebels.

I watched this video after watching the film and it makes a lot of sense:

The gist is that Lord and Miller were fired for making L33T a parody of Social Justice culture. When Kennedy found out, she fired them and brought in Ron Howard to edit out the shots that made the character look bad and make sure the story was still coherent.

Having seen the movie, L33T is barely in it and comes off as obnoxious. The film doesn’t at all feel like 2 separate films cobbled together from 2 different directors. The film was seamless.

I thought the movie was okay. All the actors did a fine. Not the best... not the worst.

I Feel sorry for anyone who believes that video

Why is that? It’s a compelling reason for what happened behind the scenes. 2 comedic directors taking the piss out of far left politics, and getting canned when the people in charge found out. The official line is that they were let go because of “creative differences,” and they didn’t like the humor they were going for. Would make sense if it was a certain type of humor they didn’t like.

Far left politics in a Star Wars film? We aren’t watching the same Star Wars films bro.

Guess not Friend. Guess we see what we want to see or what we’re looking for.

I just saw Solo. I didn't think it was bad at all. I thought it was pretty decent. Nothing great or amazing but definitely wasn't bad in my opinion. I had a few gripes but I can saythe same about any movie, or any star wars movie. I thought the young solo actor would be dreadful but he wasn't too bad. He is no Harrison Ford by any means, no one can do Han like him but he wasn't bad just not great at it. Loved the Easter eggs and such. I'd give it a solid 7/10

Not this again...

People are mad because L3 promotes social justice.

People are also mad because L3 mocks social justice.

Regardless of political affiliation, doesn’t this seem ironic? I have an idea: maybe it’s neither. Maybe they just made a character with a realistic personality type (and we can all agree there are people like L3, right?). Maybe what the audience think about her explains more about their experiences and worldview than anyone else’s. In any case, we just can’t know, and nobody making an article or video knows either. So rather than risking another thread lock, can we keep this free of politics? ?
