Sting Like a Bee...

By Cuz05, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This has turned into one of my favourite lists recently so I thought I'd share :)

It's gonna melt to meta in an instant but for funsies, I'm having trouble topping it. Obviously, none of the ships are stacked but I've been getting quite into upgrade light builds.

Kath Scarlet - Andrasta, Bomblet, Tail Gunner, Fearlessness, Stims. 46

Guri - Title, Mindlink. 28

Black Sun Assassin - Title, Mindlink. 26

Stress is not fun but it's not as debilitating as it could be, since it doesn't shut Guri's ability down.

I send Kath straight at them and hope she survives long enough to scoot through and pop the huge rear arcageddon. The Vipers flank on opposite sides as fast as poss, then Broll and Focus for all they're worth. With mindlink and Guri, you can get roll/lock + focus quite a bit.

As I said, it's not a killer app but it is fun.

Looks fine overall. I'd try to find a way to get the other title and FCS on one of the Vipers, but the points are tight.

Looks fun!

Im opposed to any autothruster capable ship of not equipping autothrusters though. Just too many turrets and range 3 missilers out there, even in fun games, I dont want my ships one-shotted. Can put attanni on Kath and then:

Guri (30)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Black Sun Enforcer (25)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Total: 54

Yes, they are indeed. I've played a fair bit with a loaded up Boba and Guri, which is great, but kind of hard mode, so I was keen to try 2 Vipers in with the Spray. This is probably the best variant I've tried, for me anyway.

I've tried 2 BSAs with PTL or Predator + Autothrusters as well but I found I didn't really get the value out of them. Basically sacrificing Stims on Kath, which always ends bad for her.

Also found I prefer the Vipers without PTL. They're nsane with it but do feel more restrictive overall to me. The 1 hard plus bendy Broll is often enough.

As far as FCS goes, I like the option to break off and switch targets as needed, sometimes it's easier to dodge an arc that way and can prove unexpected. The main thing I've been trying to get is consistent fire from the Vipers, they can float around like nobodys biz but without mods, it's just dancing for the sake of it. With Guri and Mindlink, the TL/focus shot seems to come up much more often, which kind of surprised me.

Thanks for reading and replying :)

Tell me about it! Autothrusters is the thing I hate leaving out. However, I don't actually miss it as much as I expected. Blasting into R1 with the Vipers is very much plan A.

But I like the suggestion there, not a variant I've tried, I feel like I should. It's almost harder for me taking the Fearlessness off Kath though. That moment when you put a bomb and 6 hits into a ship behind you is the lists moneyshot :D

Thanks for contributing :)

I agree on this. Though the new title gives good maneuverability, there's not enough green for me to be comfortable taking PTL.

With PTL, you can turn on a dime, ending up almost within a large base. Start at one of the highlighted vipers and 1 bank b-roll.

PTL is actually probably the best EPT for them with that barrel roll. It feels like they dont have enough greens, but they basically have 2 green banks with a 3 straight b-roll.

PTL is really strong with practice, and even more so on guri cause a block gives her a focus anyways. You almost always just want to dial in straights with them, and go from there.

Check this vid out of PTL vipers. Start at 17:00 minute mark and just watch where this viper ends up after a 2 straight.

That’s probably my problem right there.

I will second that, lol.

I've watched that batrep before and have no doubt how strong an option it is in experienced hands. I used to staple PTL to Vipers and the original version of this list was all about the 2 PTL BSAs. My problem was hitting hard with them, I have a difficult time not always boosting and barrelling with PTL and would often end up concentrating more on manoeuvres and less on just shooting. Plus there's times when a simple white turn would be perfect but you're carrying PTL stress.

It's one of those things where, if you're good enough to think 3 or 4 moves ahead, you can make bank but that's beyond me. I felt a kind of freedom whenever I took it off and opened the whole dial. That said, I do still run a PTL Guri with Boba at times.

And as much as I want to practice and get good with PTL Vipers after looking at the video, there's no PTL in 2.0 so I wonder if I should stick to Predator on mine...

Actually, kinda made me think, it really feels like a lot of practice too. The main reason I moved away from PTL Vipers, 2 of them is just too much for me. With 1, I do still like it. 3 of them.... I don't think I'd ever win a game :D

I think it depends so much on how you play them. The best way is may be darting from R1 to R3 as necessary, striking like the proverbial snake, maximising red and green at the most opportune moments. PTL and Autothrusters just max that potential out.

I'm too simple for that, I'm a thug. I go to R1, stay there until dead. I like a fast game, win or lose. PTL sort of complicates that for me and the barrel roll and hard turn does do the job of keeping it there and out of arc.... satisfactorily. The mindlink gives me the focus and bingo. As soon as Guri is dead, I would honestly not mind an EPT switch on the other guy :D

It does make Guri a bit of a bait fish too though..... Other guy can still have TL/roll/sloop + focus, wherever she is.
