Scum in 2.0

By Ikka, in X-Wing

Hi all.

I've been out of X-Wing for about a year now, but with 2.0 coming out soon-ish, I'm looking about picking it back up. I'm wondering what Scum ships everyone thinks will be fun to fly, based on all the leaks/previews that folks have seen? I'm not a super-competitive player, but like to fly pretty much anything and have a particular liking of small, nimble ships or ones that rely on positioning rather than pure killing power. Any ships like that I should look at?

Fire sprays, Fang fighters, Ywings and HWKs are the best Scum ships.

Edit: I was being tongue in cheek about what's available wave 1, but I suppose the other ships are also available via the conversion kits. Joke fail!

yeah, firesprays and hwks look particularly crazy

both can boost, and both can grab cloaking device for extra positioning shenaigans

plus firespray Slave-1 title is even MORE tricky ito positioning

Hmm. Well, I have one of each of those, so that's nice. What about the Kihraxz- it's my favorite looking Scum ship, even though it never could live up to its awesome looks on the battlefield.

Fangs and Firesprays look like a ton of fun. The Firespray in particular got a retool and i’m looking forward to trying it out, especially Boba Fett.

HWKs in general are looking fun. I’m personally looking forward to putting the Moldy Crow Title on Palob and swiping focuses or evades.

Looking forward to hearing more the Lancer. It’s still got a great dial, but it’s action economy took a hit. I’m interested to see what tricks it might have in store.

I really can't wait to try the new Firespray. Also really makes me want to get around to painting a Daft Punk pair again...

Definitely looking like HWKs gonna be cool. Just hoping they aren't huge point sinks. The higher PS cost pilots, Title, Engine Upgrade, (crew?), but at least you don't have to equip a turret so that'll help. Hoping it's not like a third of the points or more

Ugh, don't know if I could ever buy a Lancer, I hate how it looks. I'd have to do some sort of mod to make it not look like a Trekkie ship.

I'll probably buy a second Fang, a Kimogila, and something else soon. I don't know if I need two Firesprays or HWKs, but maybe...

Yeah rebels ships have that cartoonie look that just looks wrong next to other ships.

Going to say in second edition the scum ships i think will be the most fun and solid:

-Hwk playable frame with the same(ish) awsome abilities as version 1.0 its going to be a hoot.

-firespray, wow its dial is so much better and the medium base upgrade... yay firespray.]

-Starviper, how could it not be good after being hit so hard on the head by the buff stick. Those linked actions with its improved dial to get rid of the stress... oh my (i predict guri will be my favorite second edition ship and will be very good)

those are my favorites due to changes, I still think the m3a is going to be very good and fun but it's not got the kind of exciting changes those 3 have had.

I like the TAP, and with a more weathered paintjob the Ghost isn't too bad, but the Lancer...bleh.

Star Viper getting better is definitely a good thing- going to pick up a second one soon. I agree that the dial changes will make it so much better- it will probably fit into my Scum where an TIE Interceptor or Phantom would in my Imperials.

I love M3s, so I will probably have to get a third or fourth. Nothing better for scrapyard scum than a wave of cheap cannon fodder.

Oh, forgot about the starviper. It looks like a lot of fun. Guri looks pretty primed to be a star.

Just bought a second Fang and Star Viper, and a third Kihraxz. I am always happy with the small Scum ships, hoping that in the future we get some more good medium ships like the Skipray Blastboat. I feel like having really good medium ships could give Scum another unique look.

I'm thinking Boba Assaj will be stronk.

Boba Asajj was strong in 1.0 as well, so I’d expect it to do well in 2.0 in some form since it doesn’t depend on any broken synergies.

primed to be a star viper*

Oh, duh, yeah. Cannot WAIT for new I5 Guri.

IGBots! We may be able to put 3 of the murdermachines on the table in a normal game now. So tech!

2 IGs with Guri might be way better though if they fit together.

IGs with any support would be nice. All depends on points I guess.

Not disputing this, and further I think the new Starviper looks like a blast, but nobody brought up the IG-88s yet. They demand respect.

Hi. There are a number of small and nimble ships for Scum faction. Many of them weren't balanced right in first edition, so we should expect them to be pretty good in 2E. Now, they have stated that each faction will have their own personality. From the fluff....and what they have said about the Kihraxz Fighter you can expect a lot of Modifications to alter your ships.

Scyk Interceptor - It's small and agile. It's only got 2 attack dice, but you can upgrade it with Missiles, Torpedoes, or Cannons.

Kihraxz Fighter - Didn't find a lot of love from most people, but myself and a few others really found it a good ship. It's the Scum answer to the X-wing. I really like the 1 hard turn that means it can get around pretty well. I also mentioned that it should be able to get THREE modification slots!

Starviper - This should be more of an elite fighter, but exactly what you are looking for. Agile and Deadly. I think even the Generics will be good.

Fang Fighter - Should also be an agile and deadly ship. It has no shields, but bonuses for you being right in the enemy's grill. So, depending on luck, you can go straight at someone and blast them to pieces, or die in a blaze of glory.

Beyond that, you start entering into the Medium based killing machines.

Firespray - It looks fun and deadly. Front and rear arcs with a number of upgrades looks really good.

IG-88 - You will have death droids with all sorts of customization and special abilities.

Kimogila - It's a bruiser....where if you get them in the Bullseye arc, they can't use defensive tokens! It has missiles, too. I've had a lot of fun surprising people and really putting a beating on with this ship. It's newer and a lot of people haven't really tried it.

Guys. IGs just won worlds. Their dials remain the same and they are now medium based (which is a buff). Granted, there's no more ptl, but still adv. sensors. Ion cannons got changed, ok, but still: I think dual or even triple igs are a thing to watch out for.

No PTL, worse sensors (limit one action during activation, so no C),bl and I believe B is bullseye only

Double calculate is neat, though

I doubt we'll see triple IGs, but I suspect that they will drop in price quite a bit to 67 points, leaving a touch more room for other stuff in the list, as opposed to the current 72 2e points per ship.
