Dodonna Bombing List

By Mostly_Harmless_Species, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So I have been playing around with a committed Rebel bomber list, focused around Yavaris with fighter coordination team pushing b-wings. I felt compelled to put in two flotillas, as rebel bomber lists usually had 3 flotillas pre-nerf, but chose to go with an MC30 for direct damage, and only one flotilla as the two other ships can push squads well enough. Additionally, I am unsure of objectives for squad heavy lists as I like ship-centered lists far more, so suggestions as welcome. So here is my list:

Bombing List (400/400)
Rebels - Author: Mostly Harmless Species

Commander: General Dodonna

Objectives:

[flagship] Modified Pelta-class Command Ship (60)
- General Dodonna (20)
- All Fighters, Follow Me! (5)
- Toryn Farr (7)
- Fighter Coordination Team (3)
= 95 total points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
- Yavaris (5)
- Ray Antilles (7)
- Fighter Coordination Team (3)
= 72 total points

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
- Admonition (8)
- Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
= 81 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
- Bomber Command Center (8)
- Boosted Comms (4)
= 30 total points

Squadrons (122/134):
1x Moldy Crow - Jan Ors (19)
2x YT-1300 (26)
4x B-Wing Squadron (56)
1x Havoc - Nym (21)

So my first few questions are about the fighters. Is it worth it to change at least some of my b wings to scrugg h-6 bombers? I mainly rely on affm! to push my b wings above speed 2, but I could gain more benefits by changing to h6s. Additionally, even with Toryn Farr, is nym reliable enough for the expenditure? About the MC30, if I replace it with a cheaper ship that could actually push fighters, what should I put on the other ships?

Ok so lets get started, in my opinion do not bother with the MC30, if your going to bomb, just focus on bombing.

Objectives:

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

All day everyday with bombers.

I personally dont like the Pelta as it is slow and squishy and also causes a spare points vacuum thats hard to fill as you will see, but is kind of a must have for slow *** B-Wings, if you decide to use Scurrgs instead of B-Wings I would use a MC80 Command Cruiser instead.

Yavaris works better with Flight Commander instead of Raymus, gives you a more flexible and more forgiving control over squadrons as it does not have access to boosted comms. Also Fighter Coordination Team does not work onboard the Yavaris. Here is the errata notes:

Yavaris

Alongside Gallant Haven, the Yavaris title has been a centerpiece of Rebel squadron-based fleets since its release in the first wave of the game. Subsequent releases have contained effects that allow players to circumvent the Yavaris's vulnerabilities, increasing the card’s relative power. Like Avenger, Yavaris and its squadrons pose a serious threat of destroying even a large ship before it can activate.

Yavaris now reads “[Squadron Command]: Each squadron you activate can attack twice if it does not move during your activation."

This change prevents the combination of Flight Commander and Fighter Coordination Team from allowing players to move their squadrons up to distance 1 and still attack twice over the course of Yavaris's activation.

Pelta needs to have Raymus Antilles otherwise you have to sacrifice your squadron command to use you Fleet Command Upgrade, Raymus will give you squad token when you reveal a squadron command. Also Adar Talon is a must when running Yavaris because triple tapping Nym is complete BS. So that means you need to run Phoenix Home.

Put Toryn Farr on the Bombing Command Center, also add Bright Hope. Take a second Floatilla with Comms Net to get the Yavaris 3 squadron activations.

As for your squads, you need a way for those YT-1300s with Jan to be able to beat what ever they lock up. They tank, but eventually die due to lack of firepower. Ten Numb is the only buddy they need because of his Grenade effect.

So here is some suggestions for building squads.

Here are some Air Superiority combinations:
Intercept and Snipe:

Shara Bey, 3 A-Wings and 1 E-Wing (65)

Tank and Spank:

Jan Ors, 2 YT-1300 and Ten Numb (64)

Dog Fighters and Secondary Bombers:

Jan Ors, Biggs Darklighter and 2 X-Wings (64)

Here are some Bombing combinations:
Light Bombers:

Norra Wexley, Gold Squadron and 4 Y-Wings (69)

[12 damage potential with Norra allowing crits to auto remove a shield meaning cant be affected by defense tokens, including contain unless they have damage control officer]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 20 damage potential]

Heavy Bombers:

Captain Nym and 3 Scurrg H-6 Bombers (69)

[12 damage potential with Captain Nym's Blue Crits you can choose one enemy defense token to discard]

[Using Adar Talon and Yavaris Nym can attack three times in a round, so damage postential with Nym attacking three times and 2 Scurrgs attacking twice and the remaining Scurrg once you have a 24 damage potential with Nym giving a potential to discard up to 3 defense tokens in a turn]

Gunships:

Keyan Farlander and 3 B-Wings (62)

[13 damage potential with Keyan Farlander re-rolling both black dice if hitting hull and not shields]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 27 damage potential]

Rogue Bombers:

Dash Rendar and 3 Lancer-class Pursuit Craft

[8 damage potential]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 16 damage potential]

i do not recommend, more for bombers supporting a Gunboat fleet

So as for a build alteration I would suggest this.

Name: Dodonna's Pelta B-Wings
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Dodonna

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

Pelta Command Ship (60)
• General Dodonna (20)
• Ray Antilles (7)
• Fighter Coordination Team (3)
• All fighters, Follow Me! (5)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Phoenix Home (3)
• Adar Tallon (10)
= 112 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
• Flight Commander (3)
• Yavaris (5)
= 65 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• External Racks (3)
= 39 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Toryn Farr (7)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
• Bright Hope (2)
= 35 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Squadrons:
• Jan Ors (19)
• 2 x YT-1300 (26)
• Ten Numb (19)
• Nym (21)
• 3 x B-wing Squadron (42)
= 127 Points

Total Points: 398

As you can see having to use a Hammerhead to fill the massive points gap.

The following is the fleet that I took to my regionals tournament and came second. This was also before the Yavaris nerf.

Name: Dodonna Bombing Regionals Fleet
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Dodonna

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

MC80 Command Cruiser (106)
• General Dodonna (20)
• Adar Tallon (10)
• Fighter Coordination Team (3)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 143 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
• Flight Commander (3)
• Fighter Coordination Team (3)
• Yavaris (5)
= 68 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 30 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Squadrons:
• Jan Ors (19)
• 2 x YT-1300 (26)
• Ten Numb (19)
• A-wing Squadron (11)
• Norra Wexley (17)
• 3 x B-wing Squadron (42)
= 134 Points

Total Points: 395

Now due to the fact I did not enjoy the clunky play of twin FCT for B-Wings, is ended up changing the fleet to Scurrgs and changing other aslects aswell because of the Yavaris nerf to the following.

Name: Dodonna Bombers
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Dodonna

Assault: Precision Strike
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

MC80 Command Cruiser (106)
• General Dodonna (20)
• Adar Tallon (10)
• Fighter Coordination Team (3)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 143 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
• Flight Commander (3)
• Yavaris (5)
= 65 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Toryn Farr (7)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
• Bright Hope (2)
= 35 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Squadrons:
• Jan Ors (19)
• 2 x YT-1300 (26)
• Ten Numb (19)
• Nym (21)
• 3 x Scurrg H-6 Bomber (48)
= 133 Points

Total Points: 396

Anyway I hope this was helpful information to help better specialize your bomber building skills.

Thanks for the tips, I found everything there very helpful!

So I played a game with this list, and didn't really like how the Pelta played out (big surprise). It is indeed slow and very squishy. I'm probably going to fly a list very similar to the third one listed, I like it quite a lot. I'm kind of concerned about the Toryn Farr Flotilla, it seems like a juicy target with little means of defending itself. However, I have no experience with this list (in the past I always put Toryn on a safer ship with little ti no blue dice), so perhaps that is an unjustified fear.

As far as the fighters, I felt like replacing one of the scurrgs with Norra Wexley, just like her critical effect earlier on in the game. Anyway, thanks again for the help, I feel like I have a much better understanding of bomber strategy now.

Norra is really nice, but when using Nym, if you keep the toryn close to him you get double blue re-rolls, you can remove 3 defense tokens, making Norra's ability unnecessary, just my opinon though. As for the Toryn Floatilla getting and staying close, it is usually a target that people have to chose between killing the thing that improves hitting or hitting the Yavaris which brings the Tactical Nuclear Device, I have found all of my games I have had, the Yavaris gets targeted everytime.

I would love to fly B-Wings but they too slow, if the Independance title for the MC80 gets fixed by errata to remove the attack restriction (hence why no-one uses it), which at 8 points I do not think is un-balanced, then I will run B-Wings.

Anyway, good luck and fly safe.
