Question: How will Evade tokens work in 2.0?
The rules are not available yet, and I keep seeing contradictory posts/vids about how Evade tokens will function in 2.0.

They change one die to an evade result.
Just barely
So they no longer simply add an evade result. Instead they change any one die face to evade. Consequently, they will be much more effective for higher defense ships, as your chances of having at least one non-evade result to work with increases as you add more dice.
Chance of rolling at least one non-evade
1 die: 62.5%
2 dice: 85.9%
3 dice: 94.7%
So on a 3-defense ship, the old way is only better about 6% of the time, so it's not much change there. However, it's much less effective for lower defense ships.
Edited by Glucose98What is their reason for nerfing Evade tokens?! Have they said?
I've got a bad feeling about this 2.0 Evade.
If Evade tokens now only change one die result, why bother?! Unless you are only rolling one agility die, then maybe.
I believe it's part of their effort to bring the power level of the game down a bit. They stated they didn't like a lot of token stacking in 1.0. It gets absolutely silly sometimes trying to bring an enemy ace down who can do all this crazy re-positioning and also end up with all these tokens stacked on him making those that are able to get shots....utterly unable to do any damage. Of course, that's what some people loved about the game, but I think it's best for game balance to remove it.
Personally, I'm quite happy about this. Let's bring the overall power level down.
As for why bothering to Evade? Well, as stated before, it does give you about the same results the more dice you throw. So, it's better when you have more dice, not less. There is the possibility of getting a Focus and an Evade. It won't be so common, but it's possible. If it does, then you are set!

There will also be game effects for having an evade token. For example, the 2e Falcon title allows a defense die reroll if you have an evade token, making it a bit tougher against multiple shots and/or whenever you can leverage some extra defense dice.

All this.
Compare to Crack Shot or Shield upgrade. Once per game could could assure yourself of doing one extra damage or take one extra damage and still live. A ship with the evade action could block one damage per turn all game. Having the evade action was the points equivalent of like 12-24 points worth of other upgrades for some ships. Also, when a 2 dice attack ship shot a 1 agility ship with evade you had 1 average expected damage vs 1.375 expected evade results. By changing a result instead of adding a result, it is still useful, while not completely invalidating 2 dice attack ships which is basically where 1.0 is at now.
Time will tell, but I like the change.
