First of all, please excuse my bad english, I’m just a Gamemaster from Germany.

I’ve got one question about the usage of the Dark Side Pip. In my German Translation and in this Community it seems that a Force User can use Dars Side Pips simply by using a DP, Strain and Conflict. But when I read the Text in the English Core Book it says:

“However, the dark side of the Force is always offering easy power, tempting a Force user to give in and accept its aid. A Force-sensitive character may use one or more DSP to generate one additional FP each—in addition to those generated by the LSP. The consequences that come with this choice can be dire, and can gravely affect the individual who gives in to this temptation.”

DSP=Dark Side Pip

LSP= Light Side Pip

In my Understanding, DSP can only be used if you rolled at least one Light Side Pip.

Am I wrong?

You are wrong, that statement is in reference to a PC who has multiple Force die (due to having a Force Rating of 2 or higher). And thus the results could be mixed. Since none of the sides of a Force die have mixed pips (light and dark combined on one face), the only way you could get both dark and light in a single roll, is with 2+ dice being rolled.

I think that statement was meant to state that someone could use both sides of the Force, and wasn't limited to only Dark side pips, if they elected to use them.

Example: You need 3 pips total to accomplish what you want to do, and you have Force Rating 2, so you roll your 2 dice. You net a result of 2 Light pips on one die, and 1 Dark pip on the other die. Well that's your three right there, so you can choose to use the Dark pip (and pay the above mentioned costs for it), and add it to your overall total.

If a PC only had 1 Force die, and rolled nothing but Dark side pips, they can still use them, they just have to pay the price.

So no, you don't have to already have a Light pip to use Dark pips, that would make it impossible for a Force Rating 1 character to ever do that, since they only get one result each roll.

So it makes sense, that this part wasn't mentioned in the german translation.

If you look at it this way, if you in the roll described above rolled only 3 DSP then you have 3 dark side pips in addition to your light side pips (in this case 0) so you can elect to use them for flipping a destiny point and taking 3 strain and 3 conflict, assuming you aren't a dark side force user. It didn't matter you didn't roll light side pips,

Thanks to my misunderstanding, i gained no conflict through force usage.

Hopefully next week, i gain enough XP for Force Rating 2 ...
