Cards you thought were good

By Npmartian, in X-Wing

I won my first tournament with, I believe, Keyan, Horton and Biggs. Keyan had opportunist and a HLC, which I thought was amazing (this was before even Miranda came out), and upon encountering Soontir Fel for the first time I ditched the concept entirely.

I'm still considering the quadjumper to be an amazing ship (stupidly overcosted, but nobody plays then, hence an advantage). My Vassal league has been very successful with Unkar, but it's probably more due to Asajj's prowess than my other jank.

But to round this off with some nice salt; I thought things other than Miranda were good, but I'm becoming more and more wrong each day.

Blue Ace. After playing Pyscho Tycho for a year and realizing how awesome he was, I thought that Blue Ace with his boost turn would be just a good. But PS5 and lack of DD -> Boost prevented him from ever being anywhere near as much fun (or good) as Tycho.

Blue Ace is a bit better now with flight assist astromech, there are more competitive options for sure, but he is fun.

I definitely fell for the point trap named Keyan Farlander when aces came out. Always wanted an a-wing to pull it's weight but it never worked out.

Wired is very solid on Zeta Leader. :)

My entry to this sad list: Mara Jade. I ran her in my first ever tournament on a decimator. What could be better than stressing every ship at range one of a large base?

She costs too much, and the timing of her ability is at the least useful time possible. All of which would be fine if she could stress someone who already had stress...

Tel Trevura seemed wonderful when Jm5k expansion was announced. Back from the dead with 2 hulls (with hull upgrade) and ability to recover shields with Gonk for no points loss! Real king of Jumpmasters I thought.

It turned out he was the last played Jumpmaster pilot, even if it was part of the Worlds winning squad (only thanks to high PS). Ability really never kicked in, competitively.

Different people have mentioned Flechette Torpedoes and Nera Dantels. I tried both ! My first serious tournament list (that was legal *cough cough*) used Tycho, Jake, and Nera. Nera had Flechette Torpedoes and Munitions Failsafe. My idea was that Nera would fly wherever she wanted to, missing torpedo shots on purpose, so as to deliver stress in perpetuity; that would free up Jake and Tycho to zip in and hammer people.

I went 1-5, with the final loss being on the bottom table to the one person I'd beaten earlier.
