I’ve not seen any spoils or mention of mini American sized cards in 2.0. However, if you go to the page to preorder the Core Set there are links to suggested card sleeves. One of these links is for mini American sleeves.
Have I missed something?

The new damage deck is still that size, but the upgrades will be bigger.
I am reserving judgement about upgrade cards growing up to match pilot cards in size. I can see pros and cons. I heard that the special edition damage deck available with a pre-ordered core set was also standard sized. Is that true?

QuoteIn addition to this updated graphic design, the cards of the T-65 X-Wing Damage Deck have been expanded to a larger size. Rather than using the Mini American Board Game card size, as in the X-Wing Second Edition Core Set, the T-65 X-Wing Damage Deck features damage cards that have been expanded to LCG® size, making them easier than ever to read and use on the field of battle.
@mcgreag Thank you ![]()
I asked the holy Internet, and It sent you as Its agent to answer my query. Praise be!
Kinda hope when the newness wears off they release normal sized damage decks for the other 2 factions. I don’t like little cards and it boggles my mind why they have gone so far to eliminate them and then make standard DD that derpy size.

I think you're probably looking at the next few years' System Open prizes, right there.
I'm excited to get the big damage deck, but I don't see myself using it in an actual game--too much table space.
I'm a little worried about the bigger upgrade cards, too, but it seems like they've done a lot of work to try to make sure you only need to see half of it during play, meaning it can potentially have the same footprint as the old smaller upgrade cards.

So why not stay with the smaller ones then? The bigger cards take up a lot more storage space and you either have to take up more table space, or you can’t keep a squad in a binder sleeve like before.

Well I think the theory is that putting all the squad building information (upgrade slot icon, requirements) on the side that slips under the next card gives them more room for rules text on the part that shows. I wonder if they tried a version where the art was on the underside too.
The bigger cards are slightly bigger on the table space. The part that they hide is the same size as the old upgrade card, which means the part we see, while still the same height, is a little bit wider.
First, this allows them to be a little closer to the "golden ratio", and thus more aesthetically appealing.
Second, this allows you to see more of the art while not needing as much text, since text is a lot shorter in 2.0. This has been facilitated by cards no longer having the row of text that would say "Title. Limited. T-65 X-Wing only." because these are contained on the left of the card now (the part that gets hidden during play). Cards also don't have all the greebles and points costs, so they can streamline the text more.
I have a friend who got one of those 2.0 X-Wing expansions that were released, and in our HotAC-like campaign we broke the rules to let him just fly that. I have to say, he always has just as much free space at the table. The new upgrades are only slightly bigger, and there's less of them, because all those "fix" cards are baked into the pilot card. They've also come up with simple and clever ways to remove things like the ARC title as well.
For the storage thing, I assume it'll actually be easier, since all the cards can fit in the same sleeves and binder pages. And if you're someone like me, who likes to use deckboxes rather than binders, now you can finally do that.
