Played 7 games with the Restricted List...

By LordBlunt, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Nothing much has changed. Period.

My deck is Dragon with Lion splash. Played against Phoenix/Unicorn (won), against Crab/No Splash (lost), against Scorpion/Crab (lost), against Lion/Crab (won), against Scorpion/Dragon (lost), against Dragon/Crab (won), against Crane/Scorpion (lost)... I have never stated that I’m a great player but I ain’t stupid either. Further, 7 games isn’t a whole lot to judge by, but it does provide a glimpse as to what we will see in the game. Again, my opinion here.

Charge! in the Crab deck, coupled with Reprieve still wins games, Scorpion is nigh unstoppable regardless of splash and/or inclusion of Policy Debate, Phoenix with the new Stronghold is pretty powerful so long as a few Spells show up or their Conflict characters, while Crane and Unicorn went up a tad due to being able to shrug off the ‘losses’ of cards better than any other Clan..... I see this Restricted List to be immensely useful in the broader spectrum of gaming, but having a minor effect on the current standings and dominant decks.

(((The one felt absence was Policy Debate, which I only encountered against the Scorpion/Crab deck, but the others didn’t run it, iirc. So I guess that is a “victory” of some value for those of us who still believe the card wasn’t priced correctly, right?)))

IMO, the 2 top Tier Clans, Scorpion and Crab will continue to dominate the vast majority of tournaments in the future. I’d bet on it.

If your observations are different, please feel free to let me know.

I think / hope Crane will rise to Tier 1. I felt they were close behind and this nudge might make it. Still casual but at local events they always give me a hard time

Not having a dig, but you're not playing the meta Dragon/Crab deck ,ie a copy of Minds Desire's deck :) those copycats would have been greatly effected by this list

Hos, the thing is I am gaming only online nowadays and only casually. All I come across are Dragon with Crab splash in virtually all Dragon decks. Too boring fir my taste. Besides, all deck combos should be able to give a player roughly the same odds at winning matches, correct?

The meta will and should evolve. Currently, you are 100% correct; to be competitive and play with the ‘best’ Dragon deck is to game with ? with ? splash. Boring though, no?

If Crane is as good as some players claim, Unicorn splash could be a viable alternative to Crab.
