Restricted List

By caseycheesecake, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

You can only choose 1 of these 8 cards (up to 3 each) while deck-building:

Mirumoto's Fury
For Greater Glory
Against the Waves
Forged Edict
Charge!
Pathfinder's Blade
Policy Debate
Iron Mine

Thoughts?

Brutal for my dragon deck. Does this take place immediately? I'm running an event this weekend, want to make sure.

It becomes the law of the land on May 29. A week from Tuesday.

Seems pretty reasonable. Hits most of the problem cards.

Honestly a little sad that we're already here though, and that 5/8 of the cards are from core.

I am not sure how much the meta, but it will make cards like policy debate and certain splashes like Unicorn/Lion or X/Dragon less desirable. I do not expect scorpion to all of a sudden drop to tier 2 or Unicorn to raise up, but at least this list is not super punishing to the lower tiered clans.

Worst part: I got to have this list out in front of me for the next couple of weeks for deck building. /sarcasm.

The game is only a little over half a year out and already a restricted list, containing 5 cards from the Core set. Remarkable.

My Unicorn deck though luckily is not affected. Hurray!!

This should make things interesting.

It might actually open up some options for Unicorn...................................

nah, not really.

Didn't the same thing happen to Netrunner? They printed too many power cards in Core and did not realize how people would actually play the game. I would rather have this list now in the mindset of the player base, opposed to 2 years from now when decks may look more or less the same.

I really think they should have waited until after the next cycle had released. There are no cards on the list for Unicorn or Crane which is pretty lame. If you are going to restrict cards, do it for all clans.

They did but they didn't feel the need to implement it till after the 4th cycle, 3 years into the games life. Which may have been a little late but not terribly so in my opinion.

But of course I'm glad were implementing it.

That's not really the point of the restricted list...

I can't decide as Unicorn if I run Policy Debate or Charge now.

Hmmm.

I would have preferred it if restricted would have meant: no more than one of that card in your deck.

Furthermore I think that 'Charge' (which is, no doubt, an incredibly strong card) could have been saved by changing its text to: Choose a character card in one of your provinces with a fate cost of three or less'.

I'm super stoked to not see:

Charge-->Iron Mine-->Reprieve-->Rebuild(Iron Mine)-->Reprieve-->etc anymore. Pay for Kasada for once!
Charge-->Fushicho (or at least 6x Against the Waves) F that shiz!
Scorp access to Fury+Edict. No more needing 3x conflict characters in the same UNDEFENDED conflict to win the ring.

This, I agree so much.

The point of the restricted list is to defuse problematic combos, not hit all clans equally (unless they have even distributed power combos, naturally).

Nooooo! Singleton cards are a terrible idea and we need less, not more of them.

I still have an issue with Charge, but ok. At least we are headed in the right direction....

Charge was an auto-include for time and all eternity. Based on that, I'm glad it's restricted.

The problem with Policy Debate is not it's powerful effect. It is the crappy duel mechanic.

So this will be law for the Birmingham's kotei, gotta rebuild the deck.

Edit: Also, I guess they are boing to revisit this list when the roles swap, one of the restristed cards is even restricted further by the role.

I would argue 2 or less Fate cost.... ?‍♀️

I wouldn't have raised a stink if it had just been banned though.

Agreed. Let it come back in the future as a Unicorn card.

You misunderstood, I think: I would have wanted FURTHER restrictions placed on Charge!, such as playable only on 2-Fate cost or less...

ABSOLUTELY!
