Creating B-Wing art: "Enemy ships in Sector 47!"

By Autosketch, in X-Wing

Listen man, you’re gonna force me to find your address and start mailing you money.

updated with first pass of colour blocking. will probably refine the blocking a bit more, because its in space there's a lot of very soft transitions in the background, but the foreground has lots of hard edges so getting the balance is trickier I'm finding?

All your work is awesome and now you're doing a B-Wing which makes me super excited to see the process and result!

starting to get those star destroyers in there in the background:
+edit+ probably makes more sense to put the screencap with the SSD in there instead of just the SDs..

Speaking as an artist myself, your work is excellent! I checked out your Interceptor thread as well and it put a giant smile on my face. Keep up the great work!

updated with backdrop. Next up will be first pass on the GR-75.

blocking in colour, I'll update the main page once the first pass is done. I think a very subtle red->blue colour shift neatly fits with rebellion and empire. it's a little bit of artistic license but the red will mostly come from the glow of the exploding ship that the B-wing is dodging. Poor GR75 never stood a chance. I'm gonna go with the whole concept that the GR75s at endor were there as fire ships, loaded with explosives, so it should justify the size of the explosions.

I'm thinking of adjusting the composition slightly. I'd like to emphasize the presence of other rebel ships coming around, as it's not just the B-wing on its own. I think in addition to the GR-75 fire ship, I'll go with either another B-wing or an X-wing or two in the bottom right hand corner, which should balance out the blank space and give more of a frenetic space battle feel. Possibly directly below the B-wing. Frenetic but not overcrowded, is the key point.

Great!
busy month though. I carry my tablet with me wherever I go to paint whenever I can, but last month was almost all gouache and acrylic paintings. 7 sets of flowers, a painting of a golf course, two portraits and a large cat. We have an annual event in my city called Artwalk, where people set up with easels on the main road for a weekend and do the whole Montmartre thing. As art is not my day job, getting ready for this has vacuumed up my spare time this month.
This is in a week and a half, so I'm up to my eyeballs in canvas, but I'll hopefully be back on track soon :)

I haven't done any canvas paintings of Soontir Fel yet, but I'm very much interested. As mentioned above I have this other art show that will be taking up some time, but after that I would love to do a larger piece. It's fair to say I do digital painting only about half as much as I do traditional work.
