'Free' force point, would you take it?

By Demon4x4, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

In the campaign that I'm currently in, the party of 5 (two droids, a Wookiee, a human, a Chiss) has come upon a scenario in which the GM is offering the organic members of the party a free force point. The scenario involves stepping into the gaping maw of an obviously dark-side infused gigantic insectoid creature, and having to roll a difficulty 4 Discipline check, the results of which basically determine the starting morality score (if first time force point for character) or morality shift (for the lone force user in the group).

Both of the other organics went in, but I'm hesitant. lol

The previously imbued force user in the group has been hovering around 35-40 morality for a while, and now the Wookiee Marauder in the group (who was already a bad influence on the poor force user) failed his discipline roll pretty badly, and is starting out with a 30 morality.

My character, a Chiss Droid Technician/Modder/Rigger, is usually the calm one in the group, and while I think he would likely fail this initial Discipline check, he's the most likely to not slip further down the morality scale among this group (by a wide margin).

*shame* (spelled Wookiee wrong...)

Yes. Go big or go home!

The question isn' weather you would do it... or anyone else for that matter... what would your character do? Would he venture in with his team mates to help them out or would he back away in fear or uncertainty. Is he even aware he'll receive a force imbueing? Probably not. Play the character not the game and see what happens?

Yes, sorry, I meant 'I' to equate to my character, I just thought the mechanical end of the situation would be easier to understand as a question.

From an RP perspective, my character is torn; mechanically, it makes sense to just do it.

His native culture (Chiss) isn't very familiar with the force, so he has both an intellectual curiosity about it, and a wariness, in part due to having seen the conflicts that have arisen with the one force user in the group (a padawan survivor type). The Wookiee marauder has been a bad influence on the force user already, and seems to be able to goad him into questionable activities (like executing unarmed/surrendering foes...).

My character simultaneously is wary of the force's impact on his own decision making going forward (due to the 'slippage' he's seen from interactions to date from others), combined with the fact that the loose-cannon Wookie is now displaying force sensitivity after taking the offer from this insectoid creature. This also gives him the conflicting feelings of feeling that he might be in danger of this slippage as well, but also thinks that he's the least likely in the party to succumb to such things, and might well be needed as a counter-balance.

My character is indeed aware of the 'benefits' of the creature's offer, both because the creature told the party what would happen, and that the Chiss has seen two of the party members accept the offer and seemed to exhibit results just as the creature stated. I initially refused to partake, because I was too conflicted, and the creature of course said the offer was open, if I ever wanted to come back and reconsider.

1. Does the character even know there is a reward for doing this? If no, then why would they volunteer to be eaten by a giant bug?

2. Even if they do know some reward is there, are they even ambitious enough to bother doing it? Some people just simply don't have that need for power. This feels more like a meta-motivation, rather than an in-character motivation.

3. Ew, no.

4. NO.

So no, I wouldn't do it, and I can't think of many sane people who would volunteer either. If someone came up to me and "Hey, I can totes give you magic powers, all you have to do is jump into the gullet of this blue whale." I'd tell them to frek off and assume they are scamming me.

haha, true, but like I said, he's seen two other people do it already. lol

What ...is your Name?

What is your Quest?

What is weight of an unladen African Swallow?

My character would very likely do it. But then again I've been using an artifact that provides +1 force rating for 1 day at the cost of 10 conflict, not for the +1 force rating but to keep me close to 50 morality because i have a mentor bonus that let's me use a darkside point once per session without flipping a destiny point or costing conflict (but I get 1 conflict per session) and I'd lose that if I became a lightside paragon.

What are the characters giving up in order to get that Force Point?

(This might be more of a question for the GM than for you.)

Probably some combo of sanity, self-control, allegiance, opportunity, and hair. :P

Are the droid characters getting anything of equal value? Or have they received anything like this?

They received some strange armaments crafted from bug parts. A heavy blaster that shoots lightning, with exposed brain matter in the hilt, that sort of thing. I can't say I was paying too much attention to that part. lol

If your character wouldn't jump into a creatures maw; don't. Who cares if you don't get the bonus? A creature of this nature has too many potential unknowns. Your characters logic can bypass that, and thus give a credible situation where this charcter alone wouldn't have been affected by the creatures ill effects.
