Old factions vs New factions

By vtarin, in X-Wing

Now that we will have to split between fo / empire and rebels / resistance , which one are you choosing?

There is so much difference in ship # between the old & the new, that it wouldnt really surprise me if we dont get any new ship for the older factions.

I think I will get one kit for empire just to be able to play until we get kit & new ships for the fo/ resistance.

First order with just 4 ship types seems a bit meh to play. The good thing with the split is that suddenly there are a lot of ship archetypes to fullfill in the new factions.

At the risk of angering lots of people, the T-70 X-Wing looks cooler as a tiny spaceship mini than the T-65. If they too get flappy S-Foils, I'll be very tempted to switch to the new factions.

I played all three factions in 1.0 though, so I'll probably play all five in 2.0, to be honest.

I’ll play all 5, but I may stop getting new stuff for Imps and First Order, depending on what new ship release looks like.

I took the time to repaint all my FO ships as Imperial ones.

What you think?

I only had a few TIE/fo and 1 /sf for the First Order, so I am currently getting rid of/mothballing those models. For the time being. When the second (?) wave hits and we see what the First Order can do, I may start playing them, I may not.

I am holding on to my Resistance ships. I like the bomber and the T-70s, I like the pilots, and I like Rey in the Falcon. When the kit comes our for the faction, I will be ready to play them.

Honestly, the split to 5 factions now may be enough to kick me over into only buying imperials going forward.

The splitting of the factions is the only thing I dislike about 2.0. My only sequel ships are from the TFA core set, plus the original Falcon. I'll probably just treat them as Rebels/Imperials for casual games, as long as nothing is terribly unbalanced with that.

FO and Resistence need some help and fast. Scum started with 3 new and 4 borrowed ships (though one of those is Scum exclusive now), so we need 2-3 ships added to each to at least approximate what a new faction needs to compete. The new animated series and movie(s) will help somewhat.

So it may break down this way:

new Resistence ships-

A-wing RZ-2 (or repaint A-wing)

Troop Transport/B-wing

T-85 X-wing

New FO-

Xi-class shuttle

FO Bomber (possible repaint TIE Bomber)

Stormtrooper Transport

but how to do it? Two waves of nothing but ST stuff would get things going for sure, especially if the A-wing and TIE Bomber get the Most Wanted Treatment in the conversion kits. (Maybe throw in E-wing, K-wing, And Defender)

Anyway, TIE/fo, /sf and Silencer are just too much fun to play with, and T-70s are great. Just these ships make it great for casual games, much less Rey in her super Falcon.

I'm gonna sell or exchange my T-70s, forget that the sequels ever existed, and stick with the Alliance at least until prequel factions come out.

I'm sticking with the Empire/Rebel era. And I'm probably more interested in Clone War factions over Resistance and First Order tbh.

I will be going 5 factions...

When the prequal factions come (come on baby) then I might drop the FO and Resistance for CIS and republic.

CIS is really all I want from this game going forward, who cares if you don't like the movies they have awesome looking ships and droid ship swarms!

My wife is Rebels and I am Resistence. Simple as that. I will play with her ships until Resistnece drops. I expect RZ-2 A-Wing to come out in Resistence/FO wave.

I am going to play the classic Rebels mostly, but sometimes I might also choose the Resistance

The Resistance had my favorite aces in the whole game. Blue Ace and Ello Asty will be sorely missed from my Rebel list building. I am torn because those aces with rebel generics were my jam, so I will be unsure of what to do now that they are split and when resistance only gets its updated rules. I hate the Resistance bomber and am not really a big fan of the Falcon so I need more info, I want to stick with Resistance but we will see.

Hopefully the T70 is not too different from the current version.

I just got into X-wing this year, so I have a small collection of almost exclusively OT Rebel & Imperial ships. When 2.0 drops I'll convert Rebels as my primary faction, plus add a Firespray (which is the only OT ship I'm lacking at the moment). Later in 2.0 I will delve into Scum (really want a Quadjumper and some Starvipers). I will most likely convert my Imperial ships piecemeal over time, though if I can find a good deal to do so I will buy the Imp conversion kit and swap/sell off the extra stuff I don't need. If I'm really lucky, I'll be able to swap a bunch of my extra Rebel stuff for the Imperial conversions, but I'm not counting on it.

I don't have any Resistance or First Order stuff right now and I don't see myself adding them anytime soon, but that was the case with 1st edition anyway. The edition change has my super psyched about those lovely OG ships that will always be the backbone of my collection and the stuff I'll want to see on the table the most.

Easy for me. I will keep to Empire, Alliance and Scum.

Never bought anýthing from sequel era apart from 2 Quadjumpers (the second for painting/modding). I was tempted to buy a newer core for the damage deck only, but did not want the inverted colour scheme ships, and was always hoping for another starter set (in vain....)
And I actually some 1.5 years ago predicted a faction split once they have some more sequel ships, so one more reason there already for me to not get FO or Resistance ships.

The 2 sequel era factions will be suffering from the delay of their conversion set.

FO has somewhat enough ships to be viable.

Resistance however, has a really low ship count. We will see how it fares, risk for it being dropped hard, at least for several months.

Until the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force faction is released...

Really, anyone could have focused on a faction in 1.0 and eBay’d upgrades; 2.0 makes it easier.

I really liked the pilots for First Order and the T-70s so I will probably buy in. I don’t really have any interest in that ugly bomber right now though.

I'm getting out of Resistance & First Order for sure.

Gotta make space for N-1 Naboo starfighters. Prequel factions are all but confirmed by the new 'calculate' action.

I sure hope so while Lucas was bad at dialog and general story arcs in the prequals the ships were stunning.

And my 4 year old would love general grievous in the game (he has no clue he is a bad dude

What you think?

And here's the funny part, I was thinking of doing the exact opposite.

I’ll probably be collecting all 5, but outside the defender I like the FO More in 1e. Silencer and sf are my favorite “imperial” ships right now. Can’t wait to see what they look like for 2e

Well until Wave 2 Resistance and 1st Order will not be playable.

That being said I hope it gives those factions an extra ship. Resistance only has 3 ships and 1st Order has 4. Scum at least had 6 ships when they started and that was when Rebel and Imperials only had 9.

Don't care how contrarian this is, but FO starship paint scheme >>>>>>>>>>>> empire

So I'm probably still playing my FO repainted Advance and Punisher in empire, and you're **** welcome for getting to look at such snazzy ships from across the table ;)

For 2.0 release, we got either two things

1.) Ot factions get rereleases while ST factions catch up

2.) Depends entirely on what ships Disney provides

This raises an interesting question. They’ve said all new upgrades will be available buying just one faction’s expansions (though some factions will get certain things first). That suggests they intend to keep making expansions for OT factions. The question is, what’s left to make?

Anyway, bring on the PT factions, I’ll be all over the Republic!
