Do you have to do both linked actions?

By Ailowynn, in X-Wing

Wondering this looking at the new JumpMaster. It has focus into red rotate arc, target lock into red rotate, and red barrel roll. Do we know if it can just focus or TL, without also taking the red action? If not, it’s seriously going to be perpetually drifting left. Not that I really have a problem with that...just curious.

No, this system is meant to be like PTL in a sense, can do two actions but you receive a stress for doing two. So you can just do the first action and not the 2nd.

Yeah I wondered that at first looking at the E-Wing. Do I have to "push" for a Lock in order to boost or barrel roll.

Then I saw the HWK-290. There's no way that thing gets forced into a red rotate arc in order to focus!

One item they cleared up during the unboxing is that if a ship cannot perform the first action, it cannot do a linked action. The example they cite was a ship able to do a red evade after a barrel roll. If the ship fails to barrel roll, it cannot perform the evade.

So, to actually answer his question,

Yes, you can just do the first action, you don’t have to do the second one.

You can do the first one without doing the second one.

you can't do the second one without doing the first one, which is sometimes relevant. For example, the TIE Aggressor can't evade unless it barrel rolls.

I love that there are a couple of ships that have red evade actions linked from reposition actions. Perfect blend of thematic and mechanical.
