A guide to complaining about 2.0

By MaxPower, in X-Wing

I'm getting slightly annoyed by the complains that regularly pop up about 2.0, since really a lot are unjustified in its current form.

So, there are usually 4 types of complaints: [balance, pilots and ships], [necessity of a new version ("game was fine!")], [cost], [the app]. Lets go. Ill talk only about the first, since with yesterday's reveal, the discussion is very heated there.

Balance:

DONT: you cant know whether 2.0 is balanced or not. The means of balance are points, we dont know these. So, dont claim that something is broken.

So don't "2.0 will be broken and scum will suck!"

DO: There are some very powerful effects in 1.0 that we know went into (slightly adjusted) 2.0: the ghost and yt2400 primary 4 dice. The falcon with luke seems a pwt... with han gaining double tap. The inquisitor can still have something resembling focus evade Etc. The new force mechanic seems very emphasized and powerful. Etc.

So, do: "I am very concerned that with so little dice modifications otherwise, force using aces will dominate the game and I might still not be able to fly generics"

The ships and pilots:

DONT Again, you dont know the point costs, hence the usability. So, don't "The phantom was nerfed into unusability"

DO: you can complain about the chassis, the feeling, the pilot abilities.

"I enjoyed playing boosting pwts/high ps acd phantoms/... That archetype seems gone, which makes me sad."

"They changed the punishing one to be unmaneuverable. I think that doesnt capture the spirit of the ship"

"I think with the new mobility of the xwing, tie fighters are just not nimble enough. They should have been given sloops"

"I wanted scum to retain talonbane as a true ace that can compete with the likes of vader, wedge etc. Now scum only has fenn rau. What a shame."

"Wedges ability is really bonkers in 2.0 and easy to set up. I wish it were bullet arc only. I hope they price it right."

DON'T: Tell me how to think, react, reason, etc.

DO: Give your OPINIONS, and let me decide their validity.

?

Meerick Stele better be on at least three ships. If Sabine can be in a TIE then Stele can also be in a GUNBOAT. Get it right FFG.

Oops. Did some modifications to the post, forgot to update that. Fixed. Enjoy your haze, Mr. Hendrix.

Truth be told, I do share some of these concerns. The TIEs really don't look like they can do enough now, and I'm not judging so much by the cards as by some of the demo videos put out by the likes of Team Covenant and Bell of Lost Souls. Watching three TIEs essentially be unable to do anything to Luke was tough, he always had full force charges all the time and also recovered shields every round. The only one really able to put any real hurt on him was Vader. I mean, "nimble" is supposed to be the one thing that TIEs have going for them, so what has essentially become the Oprah Winfrey barrel roll kinda feels like it debuffs them quite a bit not so much by making them directly weaker, but simply weaker by comparison. And when the ship can already be ripped to pieces by a particularly enthusiastic sneeze under the right circumstances.... I dunno, it just sorta makes me worry. That being said, who knows what new or reworked TIE pilots we'll be getting, and what abilities they'll have. Also, not knowing the costs makes this difficult as well. While we do know that an Academy TIE is 24 points, effectively keeping it's cost unchanged, it's entirely possible that the increase in Initiative/cost is weighted, with other ships paying a steeper premium for their increase while the TIE might not. Since even a higher Initiative ship like Howlrunner can be deleted in the first attack of the game, a weakness not shared by many of the other craft, maybe TIE aces will be comparatively cheaper.

Our chief weapon is surprise, surprise and fear... fear and surprise... Our TWO weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency.. Our THREE weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our FOUR...no... Amongst our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again....

The unreasonable complaining is a bit much true.

However, telling people how they can express there opinion is crossing a whole nother line. I disagree with you telling people how to express their opinions but I am not telling you not to express yours in this way, I just don't like it.

Is it too much to expect from people to be rational?

(I know it is... but it really shouldn't be)

I did not say anything about your opinion. All my post was about is that you cant complain in a rational way about any issue that will be mainly decided by appropriate costing, aka overall balance, when you have zero information about costing. Then I even went on to acknowledge that ther are many valid concerns you might have with 2.0 . You just cant complain about balance yet.
