Engine Upgrade & Expert Handling 2.0

By Xuse2005, in X-Wing Rules Questions

In X-Wing 2.0, Expert Handling and Engine Upgrade turn red barrel rolls and red boosts white respectively. Does this apply to linked actions? I haven’t heard them being an exception. Anyone know?

Given the Second Edition spirit of simplifying the rules and encouraging flying over shenanigans, my understanding is that these cards do not apply to linked actions. That “requires” section of the upgrade is a literal match to something in the ship’s action bar.

Take a look at the YT-1300. It has a literal red boost, not a linked-red boost. Engine upgrade says “requires red boost” not “requires focus-to-red-boost” (I wish it was printed in red as well, but oh well).

This is even in line with Fist Edition Engine Upgrade & PTL: you can’t do two actions without the cost of stress.

In short, we don't know yet.

My current understanding of the symbology of the cards is that a symbol on the lower left is a prerequisite, and a symbol on the right is added to the action bar of the ship.

So, a ship with red boost in its bar, now has red boost AND white boost in its bar.

A ship with focus>red boost in its bar, now has focus>red boost, and separately, white boost on its own.

Or, a ship with focus>red boost can't equip EU, because it doesn't have red boost. That part's not clear.

The phrasing on the stream of 'turns its red boost white' would seem to be more of a loose wording than precise rules - in most cases that's what it does functionally, but in the edge cases, you can probably still use the red, and in linked cases, it stays red.

Perhaps more to the point, are there any ships with linked red repositions? IIRC, all the times where we've seen linked repositions, they've been with the reposition first, and the red action being focus or TL.

Looking at a record of what's been revealed so far, it's literally only the TIE/Ad that has a red linked reposition.

Every single other linked reposition is the first action in the chain.

I agree they’ll likely not allow the red linked actions to be turned white. The cool thing is that they could make it work that way and tweak the cost easily.

B-wing has focus>BR.
