'Nimble Bomber' Makes Me Happy

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

Since it seems to be flying under the radar, it appears that all TIE Bombers have this ability. They get to use the 1-bank template to drop a bomb if they so choose. Personally, I'm really happy with this. In v1 it always seemed like Imperials got the short end of the stick when it came to bombs: they had them forever as the Imperial Only sort of upgrade, but they were very difficult to hit with (usually), then the other factions got to have them and instantly there were tons of bomb abilities for the other two factions. I'm personally just very pleased with the fact that now all TIE Bombers get to do this special little thing, and I look forward to learning the fun ways I can leverage this ability to my advantage.

Not only that, but with the Striker, Bomber and Punisher we will have 3 different bombing mechanics.

The Striker moves fancy like, the Bomber is precise in bomb placement, and the Punisher... well, it's the pretty one.

you think that's good? child's play

I assume this means the Striker has been confirmed to have bombs on 2.0?

(I hadn't notice this come up yet)

They mentioned it offhand during the unboxing stream.

That's all well and good, but honestly I just love the feel or flying the regular old bombers. Maybe it's just from my time in the simulator, but I have an affection for the darn things.

A-Wings can be.... *sniffle*... so cruel!

It's not speed 1 banks, it's the same speed as the straight. So if they release or spoil some future card that changes the speed you drop bombs, bombers can bank those too.

I'm hoping bombers are still really good for missiles and torpedoes. They may have bomber in the name and mostly dropped bombs in the movies, but loading them up with missiles in video games is the way I've mostly experienced and enjoyed them.

Right, yes, correct.

Also correct. It's just a good thing this game doesn't have reload tugs! CONSTANT MISSILE STREAM, AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!

Shhh...there, there, now. There's no such things as A-Wings. There never were any A-Wings...

Where are you guys seeing bombs for the striker? I don't see upgrade options on any of these cards.

They stated it during the unboxing.

And yes no cards have upgrades on them... its all contained in the app/website/pdf so can more easily be balanced latter.

Man, that new Scimitar art. Awesome.

Also, with all missiles now having built-in EM, I think Bombers are the new GUN(missile)BOATS. And red reload in case you survive that long.

I'll be happy if I never see another GUNBOAT toting missiles again. GUNBOATS are meant to have GUNS.

And I really want the TIE Bomber to be good. It's still my favorite ship. I think it's gonna be really fun with bombs too.

Like a possible crew spot for bombardier... One can only hope!

All laser power routed to engines. Linked advanced concussion missiles, fire at maximum range. Then speed on to the primary objective and lay a big old space bomb on it. Boom.

those were the days. 1994-5 was a long time ago.

We talking about the same ship? The one that turned like a cow, carried only a handful of munitions, and had horribly aligned lasers that almost never hit the same thing unless you were so close to a capital ship you were in danger of ramming it?

I mean, I loved the Tie Fighter. That little thing could move, and you it felt awesome when you came back from a mission after flying a two hit point wonder. And the interceptor and everything faster than it were a blast. And of course, the noble gunboat was a heavily armed tank (that actually carried enough munitions to do its **** job without running off to the reload shuttle). But the Tie Bomber? Pure frustration.

How were you carrying missiles and a bomb?

The TIE Bomber wasn't my favorite craft in the game, but I'd take it over a TIE Fighter or even an Interceptor any day. The things were the most survivable of the non-shielded craft and most missions in it they'd give you the double armament of 16 missiles. I guess for some reason I just never really had trouble adjusting to the laser alignment.

The upgraded dial for the TIE Bomber is super wonderful. Gaining the white 2-turn is heaven. The additional 3 K-turn rounds it out nicely. I too hope that there is at least 1 torp or missile slot.

Just adding banks for bomb placement doesn't change much, but the ship ability does not mention maneuver length. Hopefully there's an easy way to somehow use 2 bank templates for bomb placement, cause that would be useful.

I thought there were some missions that the Bomber had two different loads, but that may have been the Missile Boat. I do remember editing missions and ships quite a bit back then too....

a TIE Bomber with shields and a beam weapon with all systems shunted to engines can be REALLY fast.

16 missiles or 12 torpedoes, especially of the Advanced varieties, are plenty enough to wipe out whole squadrons. And the strangely offset lasers weren’t any more trouble to use than the X-wing or B-wing. It was just weird that Bombers launches their warheads from their wings...

Can we all just take a moment to say that (so far) the Scimitar Squadron Pilot art is the best generic ship art in the game?

idk, I can't help picturing it saying "OW! MY EYE!"

Haha, better question is if they are going off Rebels or the old cross section book. If the cross section book then its pretty fine but if it is going off Rebels I'm just imagining some guy having to push the missiles out by hand.
